🌿 Celebrating 30 years of biodiversity! 🌿
For the last three decades, the Gatwick Greenspace Partnership (GGP) has rallied thousands of volunteers, schools, and community groups to enhance and protect our local biodiversity. Thanks to this collaboration, rare species like the nightingale and great crested newt have returned to Gatwick’s grounds.
Since 1994, GGP has promoted biodiversity and environmental education, supported by London Gatwick’s funding. Volunteers from our airport have played a crucial role in projects like installing dormouse boxes and constructing sustainable pathways.
30 years worth of environmental protection won't fit into one post, so read more here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gRy4KzBD
Here’s to many more years of protecting and enhancing our natural environment together 🤝🌲
The inquisitive eyes of jungle dwellers meet those of residents, creating a delicate coexistence between man and wildlife. To ensure peaceful and sustainable coexistence, investing in environmental education for local communities is essential. This kind of investment can transform the way we interact with nature.
On the one hand, wilderness offers beauty and mystery; on the other, local people need land for food and shelter. This delicate balance is often threatened by conflicts between man and wildlife. To preserve biodiversity and ensure the safety of both parties, a better understanding of interactions is needed.
Environmental education plays a key role in making local communities aware of the challenges of coexistence with wildlife. Providing them with knowledge about local biodiversity, good conservation practices and conflict management strategies encourages a change in attitudes and behavior towards nature.
Investing in environmental education for local communities has multiple benefits. Not only does it reduce human-wildlife conflict, but it can also stimulate eco-tourism, promote sustainable development and strengthen the links between local people and their natural environment.
Investing in environmental education for local communities is an essential step towards peaceful coexistence between man and wildlife. By raising awareness and involving local people in the protection of their environment, we help to preserve biodiversity and build a more harmonious future for all.
Let's invest in environmental education for a future where man and nature live in harmony.
Nourishing communities with three Food Forests in São Paulo, Brazil
In São Paulo's low-income communities, Unified Educational Centers (CEUs) serve as vital public hubs, offering free education, culture, and recreation. These centers cater to predominantly black and brown populations and play a crucial role in making essential services accessible. Each CEU encompasses three public schools, serving 1,000-3,000 students, fostering education from a young age through to adolescence.
The introduction of these three food forests, in three CEUs, aligns with an environmental education initiative. Over six months, teacher training aims to empower educators and school managers in adopting sustainable practices. The forests, integral to this program, serve as open-air classrooms, promoting direct contact with Nature. Beyond enhancing educational methodologies, these spaces convey knowledge about the native Atlantic Forest, local species, microclimates, and soil life.
This initiative transcends reforestation, fostering biodiversity conservation, ensuring food security, and providing relief during heat waves. By establishing these food forests, the project aspires to cultivate a sense of environmental responsibility in future generations, encouraging active participation in the regeneration of our planet.

Teaching young children about conservation is crucial for nurturing responsible future citizens. Introducing conservation concepts at an early age helps instill a sense of environmental stewardship and responsibility.
Children who learn about the importance of protecting natural resources, reducing waste, and preserving biodiversity are more likely to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.
This early education can shape their behaviors and attitudes, making them more conscious of their impact on the planet and encouraging them to make environmentally friendly choices.
Educating children about conservation also fosters a deeper appreciation for nature and the interconnectedness of all living things. This awareness can lead to a lifelong commitment to environmental protection and inspire them to become advocates for sustainability within their families and communities.
By understanding the consequences of their actions on the environment, they are better equipped to make informed decisions that contribute to a healthier, more sustainable future. Overall, early education in conservation is essential for building a generation of environmentally conscious and proactive citizens.

What if connecting with nature reduced anxiety for you? I recently came across an article discussing the importance of environmental education and how it shapes our understanding of the natural world. Reflecting on my own experiences, I remember participating in a local workshop that immersed us in the outdoors—teaching us about conservation and ecology. That day not only deepened my appreciation for nature but also sparked a desire to protect it.
The takeaway? Being educated about our environment is essential for fostering a community that values sustainability. Now, I’m curious to hear your thoughts. How has environmental education influenced your perspectives or actions? Share your experiences below! https://lnkd.in/ga4mZcrq
ENGAGING COMMUNITIES IN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
Engaging communities in environmental education involves creating programs that empower locals to understand, appreciate, and protect their natural surroundings. This process includes interactive workshops, field trips, and educational materials tailored to local cultures and languages.
By fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility, communities become active participants in conservation efforts, contributing to the preservation of vital ecosystems like the Sepik Wetlands and Peatlands. These initiatives not only raise awareness about environmental issues but also promote sustainable practices that benefit both people and the planet.
Through collaboration with organizations like Sepik Wetlands & Peatland Limited, communities can develop the knowledge and skills needed to safeguard their environment for future generations.

How do you see the #skill of #systemthinking or making connections? The article captures the demonstration of skill perfectly.
Systems thinking is a way of making sense of the complexity of the world by looking at it in terms of wholes and relationships rather than by splitting it down into its parts.
Callum, a student at Ynysddu Primary School, Wales enthusiastically shared his school's air quality monitoring project, saying: "We do this by looking at the types of lichen growing on different surfaces. For example, areas with more nitrogen-loving lichen, like the kind we found near the rugby club car park, show poorer air quality from car fumes. That's why we're encouraging people to turn their engines off completely when parked – it can make a real difference!"
The above is also a great example of how we can take action using biodiversity as an indicator of a health ecosystem.
I feel so proud of the impact we are creating at Foundation for Environmental Education. In the last 30 years, Eco-Schools has become the world's largest environmental education programme. It currently engages 19.5 million students from 97 countries.
