Sustainable Foods Systems Leader :: Food Justice Advocate :: Food Marketing Expert :: Servant Leader
How is it possible that 15 States decided not to apply for a FREE program that will help ensure kids in need get summer meals? Some of these States are among the most impoverished like Alabama and Louisiana. How can the leaders of these States turn their backs on the most vulnerable of our population? It's criminal. The governor of Iowa said "An E.B.T. card does nothing to promote nutrition at a time when childhood obesity has become an epidemic.” Oh. My. God. I cannot believe the ignorance of this statement. As a person who has worked in the grocery sector for most of my career, I can tell you firsthand how hard-working families depend on supplemental nutrition assistance to stretch their food budgets. I've seen the look of hunger on these kids' faces. We have to do better for our kids. Here's an easy first step: www.nokidhungry.org and you can reach out to your local Congressional/Gubernatorial office and tell them to accept the FREE Federal funding for kids' summer meals. #nokidhungry #feedingamerica #foodsecurity #healthcareforall

When we facilitate health convenings with communities throughout the country, nearly half say that food insecurity is their main concern. And summer can be one of the hardest seasons for children experiencing hunger. During summer months, school meals aren’t available, it can be hard for families to travel to access free meal programs, and food banks may simply not have enough of or the right kind of food children need. This crisis is preventable with the right resources and policy shifts: - Ensuring access to nutritious food for children even when they are not in school through programs like Summer EBT - Decreasing administrative barriers families face when applying for or accessing benefits CHF will continue to advocate for policies that help prevent the crisis of childhood hunger, over the summer and throughout the year, and we’re proud to support our national network partners who help families cope by connecting them to food access programs, emergency food pantries, and community gardens. Watch our recent webinar on summer hunger to learn more about this issue: https://lnkd.in/eTAh5WgU And visit ChildrensHealthFund.org to support our work advocating for policies to reduce hunger.

Putting Children First ‘Getting it right’ for children and young people means getting it right for our wider society. That’s why we're campaigning for children and young people to be at the heart of policy making; whether that’s at Westminster or in the communities where we all live, work and bring up our families. For too long, children and young people have been an ‘add on’ or afterthought when decisions are made. It’s now time to reverse the balance and ensure that those who will build our future society take centre stage. So what do we need to make this happen? A new Government Department for Children, Young People and the Family headed by a Secretary of State is our top priority. For too long, ‘family policy’ has been left to local commissioning. We want the balance to be reversed so local authorities are carrying out policies which are backed by legislation – not ‘pilot schemes’ or ‘partial roll out’ that can be changed at any time. You can find out more about our campaign to put children at the heart of policy making and how to support us through the link below 🧡 https://lnkd.in/eGeW3JyT #childrensalliance #childrenscharity #betterstarts #brighterfutures

"How can I help?"💬 We get this question a lot when we share the struggles children and young people face when they move in care. Especially when they are made to move with their belongings in bin bags.🎒 There are a couple of things you can do: 1️⃣ Check our website and see if your local authority has signed up. If they haven't you can write a letter to your local MP to ask them to sign the #MyThingsMatter pledge. We have a handy template you can download. 2️⃣ You can also purchase a bag from Madlug™, who in turn will gift a pack-away travel bag to a young person in care. 3️⃣ Keep sharing! The more people that see our campaign, the more change we will see.

It’s heartbreaking to see the government cutting benefits due to financial constraints, especially knowing that children, our future, are some of the most affected. I can’t imagine the emotional impact on kids when they see their parents struggling to afford food, while others around them enjoy full, nutritious meals. This shouldn’t be the reality for any child. Instead of cutting benefits, why not think outside the box? What if companies like My Food Bag or HelloFresh NZ partnered with the government Nicola Willis MP Christopher Luxon KAREN CHHOUR to directly provide essential groceries or meal kits to families in need? This way, children get the nourishment they require, without the fear that financial aid might not be used as intended. To the meal kit providers, I ask you to consider this not as a profit-driven initiative but as a contribution to the community. Offer the service at cost, covering only production, operations, and logistics—nothing more. Think of it as giving back. These children didn’t ask to be born into tough circumstances, and as a society, we have a duty to ensure no child goes hungry. We need to do better. We can do better. Let’s ensure that every child, no matter their background, has access to proper meals. #SupportOurChildren #EndChildHunger #PartnershipForGood #SocialImpact #CommunityCare #WeCanDoBetter
