Building visibility and promoting Fairtrade-certified coffee from Asia Pacific region at World of Coffee 2024 ! Fairtrade Network of Asia and Pacific Producers, in collaboration with Fairtrade Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, UK, Fairtrade International Global Coffee team, and Producer Networks of Latin America and Africa participated at the World of Coffee 2024, a prestigious coffee industry event that took place from June 26th to 29th 2024. This collaboration helped strengthen the visibility and impact of Fairtrade-certified coffee, and fostered greater awareness and appreciation for sustainable and ethical coffee production practices. As the World of Coffee gathers coffee enthusiasts, industry professionals, and consumers interested in learning about different coffee brands and products, Fairtrade NAPP provided an opportunity for 02 coffee producers from India and Laos to showcase their products to a wider audience by facilitating their participation.   By having a presence at the event, Fairtrade producers were able to raise awareness about their high-quality arabica and robusta and the benefit of the Fairtrade certification, which can help them reach new customers and expand their market reach in the long run. With the presence of Fairtrade producers at the event, the attendees were educated about the importance of supporting fair and sustainable agriculture practices. Back in the US, amidst the trendy coffee spots (including Blue Bottle Coffee in Manhattan and La Colombe Coffee Roasters in Philadelphia), I often found myself wondering: Where's the robusta magic? Then, like a beacon of caffeinated hope, I stumbled upon Nguyen Coffee Supply's ad on Facebook. My roommate and I dove in, ordering a box faster than you can say 'espresso.' Flash forward to a recent chat with Timen Rasmus Swijtink, the brains behind Lacàph Coffees of Việt Nam, a premium coffee experience hub in Saigon. We mused over the global underrepresentation of robusta, especially in the US. Even with Vietnam's robust export of this bean, good luck finding it proudly labeled at your local Fresh Grocer or Whole Foods – trust me, I've tried. But here's the kicker: Robusta's often brushed aside as the underdog to Arabica, a misconception begging to be debunked. Timen and many passionate folks in Vietnam are on a relentless mission to catapult Vietnamese Robusta onto the global stage. The real challenge? Educating the market and enticing taste buds unfamiliar with this bold flavor profile. This is where I'm passionate to step in, collaborating with local businesses to enhance branding clarity and elevate product packaging - so that every product can resonate with consumers, effectively conveying the brand's message and story.
