This #SaturdaySalute, we are honored to recognize Army Sergeant Joshua Wetzel, a true symbol of resilience and courage. On May 31, 2012, while leading his weapons squad in Afghanistan, Josh’s life changed forever when he lost both legs in an IED blast. Despite the unimaginable challenges, Josh met them with incredible strength and grit. Since that fateful day, Josh has not only learned to walk again but has also runs, swims, hand cycles, and has even monoskiied. He pursued his passion for learning, earning a degree in marketing from Auburn University, and Josh and his wife, Paige, are also authors sharing their inspiring journey through faith and resilience for others. Josh’s story is a testament to the power of determination, love, and an unbreakable spirit. We are honored to recognize you, Josh, for all you have achieved and for the inspiration you continue to provide. Thank you for your incredible strength and for showing us all what it means to never give up. We salute you! #SaluteYourHero

It always takes immense courage to face the obvious dangers he did. To me, the best part of his story is how he learned to accept what happened, understand how his life was changed, adapt to those changes, and choosing strength, patience, perseverance, and self-mastery as his path to overcome the challenges he faced and triumph over them. That to me is what makes him a genuine hero. No medal can match what he has accomplished. I deeply respect your achievement and greatly admire the terrific example you are for others.
