Reading the first evaluation report about Welsh Govt’s Universal Basic Income Pilot for care leavers. Love this line from Mark Drakeford from when the pilot launched, that basic income would give young people the ability to “decide how they want to experience life as they make the transition to adulthood.” Delivering the Care Leaver Covenant we’re constantly wrestling with the idea that we’re helping care leavers to become ‘independent’. How many of us are completely independent at 21 or 25? Why would we aspire to that for our care leavers? Drakeford’s line captures perfectly what we should be aiming for: agency and opportunity rather than independence.  #diversityandinclusion #socialimpact

Loving the income for care experienced in Wales, would have been a life changer for me and so many others I'm sure. System requirement labels such as permanance and independence means nowt in any trauma aware relationship, certainly not an outcome I was set up for success for at 16 ! Love agency and opportunities, that's meaningful inclusion right there instead of tickbox transactions. Thank you 💯

Sometimes you don’t need to do market research you just need to implement common sense. I long for the day this gets rolled out everywhere ! You got to love those who call on common sense and make things happen. No pressure Mark Riddell MBE ❤️ 😊
