The Las Vegas Grand Prix was a factor in boosting Liberty Media’s F1 revenue in 2023 as it soared 23% over 2022. The numbers and analysis are part of the Business of Motorsport this week. In Motorsport Legal news, while Christian Horner is absolved by Red Bull, questions remain about the transparency of the investigation. I also have details on a new charter offer to NASCAR teams, changes at the World Rally Championship and revisions to the damages McLaren feel they are owed by Alex Palou. #businessofmotorsport #motorsportlaw #sportslaw

Marketing Manager @ Boehringer Ingelheim | Animal Health | People Leader | Strategic Business Management
In 2010, Red Bull Racing consistently recorded the fasted F1 pit stops (tyre change) that season at an average of 3.5 seconds. By 2019, through small innovations such as the pivoting car jack, but mostly hours and hours of practice, Red Bull had reduced its pitstop time to 1.82 seconds. They had nearly reduced the time by half --> 48.5%. To put this feat in perspective, in Athletics, the world record for the 100m sprint in 1906 was 10.6 seconds, in 2009 Usain Bolt set the current WR at 9.58 secs. In just over a century the time for the blue ribband event of athletics had been improved by less that 10%. In 2019 Red Bull had set a new standard for all the other teams to follow and set a new level of excellence for pit crews. Going faster than 1.82 seconds in a race scenario seemed crazy. But ALL the F1 teams continued to practice and stayed hungry for the perfect pit stop. In 2023, at the Qatar GP, McLaren found an extra 1% and kept Lando Norris in the pits for just 1.80 seconds, marginally beating the 2019 record. Did the McLaren team reach the new ceiling of pit times? Possibly not. Did the McLaren Pit Crew execute the perfect pitstop? Probably not. There is likely another 1% somewhere. Whether you're coaching kids, teaching teens or leading a corporate team, instill the value of practice PLUS the value of attitude. Imagine a team of 20 professionals practicing something together thousands of times that takes 1.82 seconds over 4 years and not seeing your desired 1% improvement. The monotony of practice can only be overcome by the power of shared belief. Then imagine the McLaren pit crew party after that Qatar GP in 2023. Pure elation, I'm sure.

With Formula 1 back this week for the first race of the season in Bahrain, I've built a race timing #dataanalysis tool to reflect upon last year's opening round. A "gapper plot" shows the time delta for all drivers relative to a reference time or car, and is key for evaluating the race #strategy across all teams. During a race, teams analyse relative gaps with live updates to determine and predict ideal pitstop windows. Last year saw Verstappen lead Perez to the finish by 12s for Red Bull Racing & Red Bull Technology, with Alonso for Aston Martin F1 Team in third, a further 27s behind. How different will the result be this year? More #F1 race strategy analysis here: https://lnkd.in/efQcta48
