At the managerial level, women’s engagement outpaces men’s by eight percentage points. Women are similarly more engaged than men in project manager and individual contributor roles. However, this trend takes a turn as women climb the corporate ladder. Upon reaching top leadership positions, female employees’ engagement advantage disappears, as it’s nearly the same as male employees’ engagement at the same level. At all other levels, women are more engaged -- and losing their engagement advantage at the senior leadership level has significant implications. Interesting finding, I wonder if there is a correlation between senior leadership roles and their inherent constraints and the decrease in engagement.
It is crucial to address the engagement gap for women in senior leadership positions. Organizations need to prioritize creating inclusive environments that support women's advancement and mitigate the challenges they face. Additionally, understanding the correlation between constraints within these roles and the decrease in engagement is essential to develop effective strategies for improvement. Factors such as power dynamics should also be considered and addressed to ensure a level playing field for both men and women in leadership positions.
Engagement for women at senior levels often decreases due to factors like a non-inclusive workplace culture, lack of representation, and challenges in balancing work and personal life. Gender bias and limited opportunities for advancement can also discourage motivation. Additionally, experiences of discrimination and restricted access to influential networks contribute to feelings of isolation. Addressing these issues through supportive initiatives is crucial for improving engagement
"Women in leadership face unique challenges that can affect their engagement relative to men. Some ways to improve engagement include introducing flexible work arrangements without compromising pay or penalizing career growth, overcorrecting bias in pay discussions, and establishing transparent diversity goals." Glad to see these unique challenges (and solutions) called out!
It's inspiring to see women's high engagement at various levels. However, the drop at senior leadership highlights a need for better support and resources for women at the top. Let's work towards sustained engagement for all leaders!
Fascinating research. I hope Gallup digs deeper into this topic. With women making up the majority of the US population, I think we need to keep digging deeper into the root causes here. Are women pulling back from senior leadership roles because they feel isolated or because they aren't as included as their male counter parts?
The cyncial side me wonders whether women are more actively undermined by their peers and those wanting to take their place as they reach senior levels. It's hard to stay engaged when people around you are trying to take you down!
Methodology please define engagement

2moDo you think that a contributing factor for women disengaging at high leadership roles has anything to do with men-women power dynamics?
