A safe exit plan is often times not safe either for women. There should be far more candid conversations regarding why often times than not women stay in abusive relationships. There are a lot of factors that do take place when it comes to choosing to leave or stay. Such as: -Leaving a DV relationship is the MOST dangerous thing any woman can do -A woman’s life is at stake in the first 72 hours of leaving an abusive relationship -Lack of financial support from their partner and even government -Lack of support from immediate family members -Continuation of cycle of abuse These #factors of choosing to stay is VALID. Women often stay as that is the only way they would be able to keep their life. For some reason these conversations seems to be swept under the rug in this society no matter if you were born in the #west , #asia , #oceania or even the #middleeast.

Every time I explain that the most dangerous time for survivors is when they attempt to end or leave the relationship, even after having these conversations for 20+ years, it still seems to shock most people. That truth has not changed. Because the need by far too many to enforce control over their partner through violence has not changed. And, more importantly, our failure to recognize those facts and hold the partner causing harm accountable while providing safer more flexible options for the survivor has not changed. We still ask “why don’t they just leave??” while refusing to accept or understand or address AAAAAAALLLLLL the reasons they tell us and show us as to why they cannot leave. WE need to do better and different, not them.
