Talking openly about a rare cancer that is largely hidden from public discourse requires enormous courage. Mary’s public comments will help hundreds of other women to have their voice heard.  Vulvar cancer, a cancer arising from the skin of the external genital areas is increasing in numbers, mainly amongst young women. It is mainly treated surgically and is hugely under-researched with only one surgical clinical trial being open in the USA now. UQ_Queensland Centre for Gynaecological Cancer Research will open Australia’s first randomized controlled clinical trial on vulvar cancer in 2025 through collaboration with Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG) and gynaecological cancer hospitals in all Australian sites and the Northern Territory. The Cherish Women's Cancer Foundation has pledged seed funding to start this trial, which will help 500 Australian women diagnosed with vulvar cancer every year to have less invasive but equally effective surgery that considers women’s personal priorities. #precisionsurgery

It's Sarcoma Awareness Month, and I want to share my story to raise awareness about this rare cancer. As part of the Sarcoma UK 'Don't Delay' campaign, I'm sharing the number of days it took me to receive a sarcoma diagnosis. My number, 1095, represents the time from when I first noticed symptoms to the day I was diagnosed. Sarcoma is often difficult to diagnose, and many people face delays in getting the care they need. In fact, only 1 in 10 people in the UK know what sarcoma is. By sharing my story, I hope to encourage others to be aware of the signs and symptoms of sarcoma, trust their instincts, and seek medical advice without delay.
