While other platforms hog the headlines and seem to be in a constant state of controversy/flux, Pinterest is just out there quietly attracting that marketing darling, Gen Z.  Gen Z is now Pinterest’s largest, fastest-growing, and most engaged demo, and this shouldn’t have surprised me after a recent conversation with a professional senior/graduation photographer who said nearly all of her teen subjects are avid Pinterest users. (The parents, she says, are less likely to be familiar.) Most brands don’t tend to think of Pinterest as a top contender for influencer marketing, but that data really shows how valuable this platform can be. It can be SUCH a fun space for creativity – think themed pins around trends/seasonal moments, collaborative boards, step-by-step tutorials, “shop the look” pins, and much more.

Recently I watched a great talk by Casey Winters. Casey shared this experience of setting up and developing growth teams through examples, mostly from Pinterest. Highly recommend watching: https://lnkd.in/dQZvxcnd One of the examples that triggered me was about reducing user friction. To reduce friction, the growth teams did the following: 1/ Created a list of core things users need to know about Pinterest. 2/ Removed everything else for the first 30 days of user experience (f.e. advanced features like a collaborative board) 3/ Reintroduced core features and connected new users to those core values. 4/ After 30 days, gradually started introducing more advanced product features. This story from Casey is a great example of what happened to many products: * Products are developing and maturing and because of this most new product features are designed with experienced users in mind. * However, because of scaling, many newly acquired users are less targeted and engaged in the product. * As a result, the gap between users' understanding and product capabilities is increasing. 👉 Don't be biased about new users' awareness and understanding of your product. #activation
