On May 5, 2014, I wrote this opinion piece below. It is sad to say that 10 years later we are still facing the same problem, maybe even more so given the current attacks on DEI programs and offices. With layoff of 100 faculty and staff of DEI, it begging the question of the impact on the Intellectual Entrepreneurship Consortium (IE) at the University of Texas, one of the three most successful programs in addressing the issue of diversity. With the retirement of Rick Cherwitz as well as that of Freeman Hrabowski at the University of the Maryland Baltimore County and that of Isiah Warner at Louusiana State University who is going to step into their shoes. Not that one can not be replaced, but will someone step forward and be provided the necessary resources tocontinue the success of all three, given the current enviroment that exist today. These three individuals were part of a unique group of individuals who not only had the desire, but the WILL and fortitude to make it happen, and I have often said “speak truth to power no matter what the consequences. Below is one of my evergreen piece that discusses the three programs. What is an evergreen piece? It is a puece that refers to any topic with an always-on level of interest or relevance. I have, unfortunately, written over 100 of these.

This week marks the start of a new term, and the final 3 weeks of teaching at the University of Winchester and in the UK 🇬🇧! Whilst I am incredibly excited to be joining Florida Tech 🇺🇸 I am sad to be leaving a great institution, a passionate and dedicated faculty and our talented students. But my journey in Winchester has provided a lot of learning opportunities. 1️⃣I have learned the power of student potential. This opportunity aligns seamlessly with my passion for education, technology, and history, especially in the context of civil and human rights. The Mission: As part of this committee, I'll contribute to expanding educational offerings that bring to life the pivotal lessons of civil and human rights through civics and history. The Center's mandate to serve learners of all ages and create impactful, multidisciplinary lessons resonates deeply with my educational philosophy. 💡My Role: I'll be bringing my on-the-ground insights from my institution to help shape educational materials and programs that are not just relevant and unique, but truly transformative for both students and teachers. Last week, I wrapped up the 23/24 academic year by co-teaching an intensive course at Kyushu University with Ryu Kojima. I have always enjoyed teaching and have taught at numerous universities around the world. However, teaching has become even more exciting and interesting due to the rapid growth of digital technology. There is a wealth of information available, and technology is making it easier to connect with people worldwide. AI and design tools offer numerous opportunities for teaching. Yet, the most significant change for me is that I now feel less like a teacher simply imparting information to students and more like a guide and collaborator working with students to find solutions and improve the world. I enjoy discussing the students' fresh ideas, untapped creativity, and great ambition. Every year, I learn more while teaching, and I am grateful for the International Business Law students at Tilburg Law School, the students following the specialization program in legal innovation at Universidad Externado de Colombia, and, of course, the students in the International Programs in Law at Kyushu University last week.
