Today's FrostNews highlights The Donna E. Shalala MusicReach Program at the Frost School of Music, a vital educational initiative for young students, and the generous gift from the WILLIAM R. KENAN JR. CHARITABLE TRUST. This significant funding will not only enhance the program that continues to offer music and life skills to disadvantaged elementary, middle, and high school participants in Miami-Dade County while providing the opportunity for Frost School students to mentor the next generation, but it will also further support the expansion of its services, mentors, and staff as well as the resources for the community. #MusicReach #FrostNews

Music can be a powerful teaching tool, even without specialized training or expensive resources. Incorporating music into your classroom can enhance learning in various ways: #Transitions: Use songs as cues for transitions, helping students manage their time and tasks more effectively. #Movement Breaks: Energize students and provide brain breaks by incorporating movement-based songs or activities. #Emotional Regulation: Teach social and emotional skills through songs, helping students learn to calm down or manage stress. #Engagement and Understanding: Use music to engage students in higher-order thinking and connect with content more deeply. #Academic Subjects: Teach subjects like history, math, science, and literacy through music to make abstract concepts more concrete and memorable. You don't need expensive supplies to incorporate music into your class. Create playlists, make instruments from recycled materials, or use body percussion to make music. Music can enhance learning and create a dynamic and engaging classroom environment. #musicineducation #teachingwithmusic #engagingclassroom #creativeteaching #musicforlearning #classroommusic #studentengagement #educationalmusic #musicteachingtools #teachwithmusic #harshitasharma #teachertraining #training #teachers #schools https://lnkd.in/dxfQJwbN

This note took ten years for me to write. I began the The Philadelphia Jazz Tap Ensemble as a project-based experiment, funded by two small grants and plenty of ideas. Since the beginning, I’ve invested 100% of my time in creating high-quality work that employs the best people and gives the audience the best programming results. One thing I haven’t done well at all is ask for money from our audience members. I have relied on grant organizations, event sales and the occasional corporate sponsorship to fund our work. This is a model that can work through pure muscle and grit, but grants are unreliable and so are the trends and agendas of foundations. Donation drives and the ‘ask’ really come down to what is important to you. I’m reaching out to see if your interest in supporting NEW tap dance works that innovate and inspire NEW audiences is meaningful enough to see these programs into reality: - We have a new residency at the Ryerss Museum in Northeast Philadelphia, through which we will be offering FREE public tap and jazz performances “on the porch” in April and October; - We have partnered with Fringe Arts to present ‘Evenings of Jazz Funk and Fusion,’ starting in April; - The Barnes Foundation has commissioned us to create a new premiere alongside the Mickalene Thomas exhibit; - We are creating a new ‘jazz story’ about Beryl Booker that will premiere at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival this Fall. (Will we win another “Fringie”? That’s our goal!) - We are starting a monthly community jazz jam at Bob and Barbara’s, (see you April 3)! - We have partnered with the Athletic Recreation Center to house our tuition-free tap dance youth program are initiating the first ever Philadelphia Youth Tap Summit at the Center on May 23; - We are creating a documentary to celebrate Germaine Ingram and the 30th anniversary of “Plenty of Good Women Dancers.” Can you help the company - and tap dance - grow today? Your tax-deductible donation of any size can be earmarked to support our artists, our programming or our youth initiatives. You tell me what is important to you, and I will make sure your gift is put to good use. To donate securely online, just navigate to https://lnkd.in/eY2av2kw. Checks can also be mailed to our fiscal sponsor at Philadelphia Dance Projects, c/o Phila Jazz Tap Ensemble, 9 N Preston Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104. Thank you! (Feel free to share).

Unfortunately, another example that causes distrust between nonprofits, tax payers (and donors really), and funders (city, county, state and private). Events, and the grants requested to fund them, should be executed with: * agreed upon budgets, with periodic variance reviews * proactive and diverse revenue generating activities (not just one) * KPIs, reports, measurables that present progress (or lack thereof) * consistent oversight and transparent communication, avoiding surprises like budget shortfalls, cancellations, etc. Public funds for events like this should be hard to come by, and they certainly should be managed/executed as promised - if not, consequences have to come into play or we risk "promoting what we permit". #nonprofit #consulting #transparent #event #revenue #trust #grants #CRA TaMaryn Waters Tallahassee Democrat United Partners for Human Services Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP Global) Institute For Nonprofit Innovation and Excellence https://lnkd.in/gg7WYTFy

Looking forward to reading this: "From cinema programmers to orchestra CEOs, figures across the arts world reveal what 14 years of Tory rule has done to the sector – and whether a change of government would improve anything." In the past, as a Trustee of an impactful arts charity, I appraised that a more enterprising approach can yield more revenue than reliance on the public purse. Whether developing services, engaging with local or regional Corporate Social Responsibility agendas or simply contracting patrons whose tax regimens would be incentivised by donating and their brands developed by a publicly recognised partnership, there are many options that can add value and mitigate the risk of dwindling aid each financial year. #arts #britain #charity #cic #socialenterprise #funding #freedom #addvalue https://lnkd.in/ec-FrhpF

Grimalkin Records Inc. is looking for a QTBIPOC sound engineer to run sound for our 3rd annual festival in Richmond, VA. It's on October 12-13 at Basic City Beer Co. The equipment there isn't great so we were hoping to hire someone who also has equipment to ensure good sound. Last year, Musiq Cultura RVA ran sound for us. Rei was great, but this year they aren't available for both days and we're trying to keep the sound consistent. Rei is going to play the day they're available instead. Ideally, we would like to record it from the soundboard as well. Oct 12 is 4pm-midnight and Oct 13 is 4pm-10pm. I know the manager Alex there and he said we can leave everything securely overnight from the 12th to the 13th. We can guarantee a minimum of $400 per day. We're fundraising and so it depends on if we reach our goal if we can pay more. Last year we guaranteed Rei the same rate, but we were able to pay them $500 a day after we saw what we raised in total after the festival. This may not be great pay. We're a nonprofit and so anything additional could be an in-kind donation. I know that doesn't pay the bills though. If you are interested or know someone who is, please email [email protected]. Grimalkin Fest is a manifestation of our mission and a celebration of Queer Joy and Resilience through a sharing of music, skills, resources and connections. It also supports, uplifts, and cultivates relationships with musicians, other creatives, community partners, and our communities. Last year, our festival’s budget was $12,600. Over $10,000 went directly to the performers and folks working at and planning the event. That's 86% of our budget going directly to artists and folks working the fest, which is unheard of as far as I know for festivals. Our goal is to raise $26,000 to expand this year’s festival budget. Achieving this goal will allow us to: *Compensate folks for travel *Provide food and snacks *Rent a house for out-of-town performers *Purchase decorations, supplies, posters, and locally silk-screened shirts *Hire a video editor for the virtual live-streamed day *Compensate event planners *Hire a consultant to assist the volunteer coordinator *Rent Starlink equipment to live-stream events happening during the two in-person days *Increase compensation for performers and folks working at the fest Last year, our budget didn’t allow us to compensate travel costs, provide full meals for performers, workers and volunteers, fairly compensate event planners, hire a consultant to assist volunteers, nor rent a Starlink to live stream the in-person days. A budget increase will. https://lnkd.in/e39VtTXB
