We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Professor Robert Carnochan, whose passion for music education and conducting left a lasting mark on students and colleagues.
Since joining the Frost School of Music in 2015, Carnochan served as Chair of Instrumental Performance, Director of Bands, and Music Director/Conductor of the Frost Wind Ensemble. Last month, his peers honored him with the Phillip Frost Award for Excellence in Teaching and Scholarship—our institution's highest recognition for outstanding faculty and leadership.
“Rob Carnochan was a peerless conductor and musical artist, and an inspirational leader to every student and colleague he touched,” said Dean Shelton G. “Shelly” Berg. “We have lost a giant in the wind band world.”
His dedication to music and commitment to nurturing future generations of musicians will forever be remembered. We extend our deepest sympathies to Carnochan's family, friends, and the many students and colleagues who were fortunate to have known him.
We honor his life and legacy in today’s Frost News.
