🔍💻 Myth #stayinformed Myth: "More bars on your Wi-Fi icon mean faster internet speeds." Fact: While it's easy to think that more bars on your Wi-Fi signal indicator mean faster speeds, those bars actually represent the strength of the connection to the router, not the speed of the internet itself. A strong signal (more bars) means you're well-connected to the router, but it doesn't guarantee fast internet speeds. Your speed can still be slow if your overall internet connection from your provider is slow or if there's high traffic on your network. 📶🐢 So next time you see full bars but things are loading slowly, it might be time to check your actual internet speed or contact your service provider! #InternetMyths #TechTipTuesday #PingInternet #StayInformed

Full or Part Fibre?? You’ve probably heard about the Big Switch to Fibre in 2025. However, you may not be aware there’s a MASSIVE difference between Full Fibre and Part Fibre. Many businesses are on Part Fibre unaware they’ll need to change to Full Fibre or lose their phone and internet services. So how do you tell what you’ve got? Simple. Run a broadband speed test on your Wi-Fi. Simply type “broadband speed test” into Google whilst connected to your Wi-Fi. Any of the suggestions are fine to use. If you’re getting 100mbps or more download speed you have Full Fibre ( or a leased line) and you don’t need to do anything. However, if it’s 80mbps or less then it’s Part Fibre at best and you need to take action.

Why do we let Internet providers get away with constant monthly hours of down time when cellular providers provide 100% uptime. 5G Internet may be inferior to cable and fiber providers but at least it's consistent. I shouldn't need to depend on my cellular hotspot when I pay twice as much for standard Internet.

We've never been in a position where we've had a choice about the underlying network. We've always had a choice of ISP (albeit limited), but never a network (if you want to be picky, I suppose we can count Virgin/Openreach). It's incredibly exciting times as we migrate across to a Full Fibre nation, but we could do with some explanations along the way. So that's exactly what we're setting out to do. Every week, we release know-how content in "simple terms" to help guide us through these changes.
