Water oxidation catalysis can be used to produce hydrogen and other useful fuels. In this preprint, the authors synthesize four different ruthenium water catalysts and assess their catalytic performance. In addition to experimental benchmarks of catalytic activity, they use Q-Chem's DFT functionality to calculate the reaction free energy barrier and Gibbs free energy of the O-O bond formation step, helping explain the observed experimental results. Previous studies have demonstrated that the applications of confinement effect in catalysis are in enclosed nanospace. However, whether an open space has this effect is still unclear. Recently, Prof. BAO Xinhe's and Prof. FU Qiang's group revealed the interface confinement effect on open space in In2O3-TiO2 catalyst during reverse water gas shift reaction. Understanding supercritical processes requires fundamental information, primarily solubility data. However, limited literature availability for solute-solvent binary systems necessitates modeling. Equation of state (EoS) methods are crucial for modeling solubility data. Yet, obtaining accurate critical properties for solutes remains a challenge. This study focuses on modeling the solubility of solid solutes in supercritical carbon dioxide solvent, employing Redlich-Kwong (RK) EoS with Kwak-Mansoori (KM) mixing rules. Three substituted phenols and supercritical carbon dioxide systems are examined. The study assesses the modeling capabilities of RK EoS along with KM mixing rules, both with and without solute critical properties, using average absolute relative deviation percentage (AARD%) and Akaike information criterion (AIC).
