Do you ever ask yourself, “How do I get to specialize in a specific area of law?” Here’s my advice. Before you can be what you want to be, you have to be firm on what you won’t be. You’re defined as much by what you don’t do. A big case lawyer by definition doesn’t handle little cases. And if you still handle little cases while you hope to get known as a big case lawyer, you don’t have the time to do what big case lawyers do on their cases. And every time you appear in court, you get further away from the specialty you want to be known for. This is true no matter what the specialty is. If you want to be known for something, then do that! And don’t do the other things. It sounds too simple. Is it? What do you think?

Outside General Counsel for Law Firms | Ethics Advice, Legal Malpractice Defense & Holistic Law Firm Risk Management | I cram legal ethics into memes and movies
(Law Firm) size matters! 72% of all legal mal claims are against law firms of 10 lawyers or less. 1/3 of all claims are against solo practitioners. Attorney discipline and ethics claims are assumed to parallel legal mal, although hard data to confirm is difficult to obtain. This shocking reality likely has many causes but the real question is: what can we do about it now. #law #lawfirm —— Want to know more? It is of course tragic to see a lawyer committing suicide. Many of us would like to have a more balanced life, and law firms can help by setting realistic expectations, ensuring that work is adequately shared and offering help to those who are struggling. While there are differences among areas of practice, the main challenge in competition law is the vast amount of information one needs to absorb every day. The output of competition authorities and courts keeps increasing, and cases are increasingly facts intensive. While you can share work, it is difficult to be involved in cases without being on top of the facts and the law. This is an enormously time consuming activity. https://lnkd.in/ejUhKNtp

It is wonderful when legal practitioners are prepared to mentor and support each other with knowledge sharing and advice in areas of law that are not necessary my strong areas. I have learned so much working on this matter. Practical experience is so different than theory.

Day 1 of learning about legal terms Today's term is "Jurisdiction." Definition: Jurisdiction refers to the authority of a court to hear and decide a case. It can relate to geographic location, subject matter, or the parties involved. Usage in Context: For example, a court may have jurisdiction over a case because the events occurred within its geographic boundaries (i.e., "personal jurisdiction"), or because the case involves a specific type of legal issue falling under its authority (i.e., "subject matter jurisdiction"). #law #legalterms #lawstudents #learningaboutlaw
