Delta Announces New Route to Tulum, Mexico in 2024 - On Friday, Delta Air Lines announced a nonstop service to the popular destination will launch on March 28, 2024 from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). The flight will operate from #Tulum’s yet-to-be-opened #TulumInternationalAirport, also known as  Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport (TQO) which is scheduled to open in Dec. 2023. Tickets will be available for purchase in Oct. 16, 2023. "We know Tulum-bound customers will enjoy the elevated experience Delta consistently offers — and now without a two-hour drive from #Cancun — as we grow our footprint in #Mexico and throughout the #Yucatan region,” #Delta’s SVP of Network Planning Joe Esposito said in a statement. Delta will use a Boeing 737-800 aircraft for the route, which can accommodate 160 passengers. The announcement of the new route comes a day after the airline shared a "record September quarter revenue and a double-digit operating margin," Thursday on its most recent earnings call, despite its announcement of changes to its SkyMiles program. Acknowledging in September that the changes may have gone "too far," Ed Bastian echoed the same sentiment in a CNBC interview on Thursday. "We're going to have to recalibrate," CEO Ed Bastian said. The next time you're at the #airport you might hear someone say, "WILMA." If you're not near a United Airlines gate, then they're probably talking about the Flintstones. But if you are near a United gate then they might be referring to their new way to board an #airplane. It's short for window-middle-aisle (okay, it's not perfect but roll with it). Basically the theory is that if they load the plane from outside to the inside, it will reduce the total boarding time. Of course, this is just for people who are seated in economy and lack status; all. those folks will still go first. The latest news about CMA CGM and Air-France KLM parting ways has a number of causes behind it https://lnkd.in/ew5qQmm6. CMA CGM obviously still see the airfreight business as a key part of their overall strategy. And this fact is most likely strengthened by the recent challenges to cargo shipping in the Red Sea and through the Panama Canal. The major ocean shippers will be deserted by customers unless they can offer a viable airfreight solution alongside their marine business. Today's fast-moving commercial markets call for adaptability and flexibility and it's been demonstrated that 10 to 14 days extra sailing around the Cape of Good Hope, is not the rapid response that's required. Expect to see more movement in the airfreight divisions of the major cargo companies in the coming months, and also more competitive pressure from other operators and carriers picking off some of the higher value business. Behind the CMA GGM and Air-France KLM split, where CMA CGM had a 9% share, are regulatory issues that seem to be preventing the expansion of the air cargo operation into the US. This is an essential route for the airfreight operators. There has also been speculation that the economics of the airfreight division are not working yet. Airfreight can be a tight-margin business with volatile rates and the underlying costs of fuel and crew can make it a challenge to manage. As the shipping lines analyze their airfreight strategies further and understand the need to provide their customers with a full intermodal strategy, especially given the ongoing fragility of some key supply routes, we can expect to see some bolder decisions being made. If these organisations just dip their toe in the water and half-heartedly embrace airfreight, then they will find it hard to manage the economics. However, the bolder and more forward-looking ones may look to the autonomous drone aircraft that represent the future of airfreight. And rather than putting together a fleet of converted passenger planes, with high fuel burn and relatively low payloads, they will see the benefit of a higher payload and much lower fuel requirement in aircraft such as Droneliner. The reduction in operating costs that this can bring about would make a significant difference to the operating margins of the air divisions and allow them to truly, and profitably, augment the existing marine business. It would also allow far more flexibility in handling shifts in container rates, with lower operating costs the margins can be managed much more effectively. #CMACGM #AirFrance #KLM #Droneliner #airfreight #cargo

The CMA CGM split with Air-France KLM highlights the need for shipping companies to look closely at how their airfreight strategies will integrate with and augment their marine business https://lnkd.in/ewXQYu2X If the shipping companies maintain the current converted passenger plane strategy and are slow to move into drone aircraft, then they risk seeing market share being stolen away by existing and new operators in the market who will be able to operate more competitively. This would allow those disrupters to start to eat away at the edges of the marine shipping business, where delays and disruptions from conflict and climate are starting to cause customers to look again at the time vs. cost decision that used to select marine over air. As drone aircraft, such as Droneliner, bring down operating costs it will allow operators to price container shipments (carried in the lightweight versions of the standard shipping container) at much lower rates which will be much closer to shipping rates. And as the desire from customers for reliable and fast delivery increases, many will look to airfreight as a viable solution at those lower rates. In addition, as the fuel efficiency increases and also allows for more sustainable fuels such as SAF and Hydrogen, the environmental impact will start to support airfreight more too. #CMACGM #AirFrance #KLM #Droneliner #airfreight #cargo

I used to really appreciate Scoot for the quality they delivered at the very reasonable price they charge but recently they seem to really struggle compared to other low cost carriers. Flights constantly delayed, this time 5 hours. Planes in a condition not worthy of a Singapore based airline, just look at this wing (paint literally peeling off). Any idea what is driving this? It has been a big day for Delta Air Lines to Europe, with multiple new routes, resuming routes, and increased frequencies announced for next summer. They are summarised on the following map, where: - Green = brand-new route never served by the carrier (JFK-NAP) - Yellow = three routes returning (JFK-SNN, JFK-MUC, ATL-ZRH) - Purple = six increased frequencies (as below) The launch of JFK to NAP comes after Air Italy ended it in 2017. Yet Delta will join *twice daily* United Airlines flights from Newark and an also-new daily Philadelphia service by American Airlines. The overcapacity will be enormous. JFK-MUC is back after last being served by Delta in 2001, and will compete directly with a daily service by Lufthansa. It will be the first time in nearly a quarter of a century that it has had a US carrier (Delta was the last to do so). Of course, Star Alliance members United Airlines and Lufthansa both operate from EWR. Of the flight increases, all but one will be at a record high. The exception is DTW-CDG, which returns to 14 weekly, which it had for years until 2019. The increases are: - ATL-CDG rises to 21 weekly (only held in two weeks in 2018, so is *effectively* a record) - JFK-BCN is 14 weekly (up from a max of 10) - ATL-VCE is 10 weekly (never higher than daily before) - DTW-KEF (started in 2023) becomes five weekly (up from four) - BOS-ATH (launched in 2022) to a record daily (up from four) Alas, it comes as DUS is pulled, with Delta's three-weekly summer-seasonal service from Atlanta the German airport's last remaining US route (it has none to Canada).
