#CathieWood quoted as saying #GaryGensler "denigrated" the bitcoin/crypto sector for properly pointing out that #bitcoin is the preferred currency for ransomeware scams, illicit transfers, sanction evasion and terrorist financing. Before anyone points out that the USD was the currency of choice for drug kingpins for decades, I'll agree the point if we all agree that in the balance of funds the USD has massive legitimate use and only a minuscule minority of illicit transaction volume. No one knows how much bitcoin activity falls into the illicit category, but we can be pretty certain its very volatile, highly speculative, and vastly illicit in use. If speaking the truth denigrates #crypto, then crypto has bigger problems than a statement from Mr. Gensler.

Between deepfakes on live cameras and extremely realistic fake passport creation, the authentication through a digital capture of the analog world is on life support. We can't trust the person on the other side of the screen anymore. We can't trust photos of IDs as a form of authentication anymore. We can really be sure about a person's identity by seeing them in real life and inspecting their passport in person. Any form of authentication and verification in the digital domain should be done with fully digital approaches. Of course, they are hackable, too, but it's much harder than forging a photo.
