📣Welcome back to the continuation of my “Common Mistakes in Filmmaking” series on Saturday! 📣 Let's talk about the importance of table reads!📖🗣️ Every major production does it even multiple times.☝️ A table read occurs usually during the beginning of the production phase in film and TV.📽️ Also known as a read-through or table work, its purpose is to bring together everyone who is a creative team member to read the script or screenplay critically and in an organized manner.🤓 📍A table reads aims to: Fix script issues, funky dialogue, etc.📝 Dive deep into the characters (especially important for the actors) 🧐 Bring together the creative and production teams💭💰 The set is not the best place to rewrite your script.🎥❌ So don't forget to plan a table read during your production!❗ Have you ever seen the table read of “Beauty and the Beast”? 🌹 It's amazing to see how professional a table read can be. If you want to have an brilliant example check it out on YouTube.📱 https://buff.ly/3JS6VHP #filmmaking #filmmaker #supportindiefilm #tableread #mistake #film #filmproduction #featurefilm #screenplay #script

Just revisited Tim Burton's Beetlejuice—a quirky classic, but it always misses the mark for me. 🎬👻 Maybe it's the offbeat humor or the chaotic vibe, but I just can't connect with it. Check out my full review on YouTube and let me know if you agree! #beetlejuice #timburton #moviereview #michaelkeaton

The enduring power of humour in advertising only delivers sales efficacy when it's woven into a strong product pay off. Humour for humour's sake often leaves people remembering the ad, but confusing who it's for. Or what the product even was. This example from Coffee Mate is a wonderful combo of how to do both. It's irreverent enough to capture attention, but the irreverence builds towards the produt pay off. At the end of the ad, the abiding message in my mind was how creamy that coffee must taste to break the "coffee mate, coffee mate? Coffee, mate" vortex. The humour is part of the strategy and narrative for the product, not an add-on. Nicely done, Courage Inc #humour #advertising #strategy

The reviews on “Argyle” have been abysmal and yet in almost every cinema in Sweden the movie is getting prime screenings. For the exhibitors they are making some pocket change on the rentals of cinemas and distributors like Universal will rent the real estate out of it for the screens. But who is watching? There are still conversations with distributors and agents about packaging films with names and yet this packed line up of stars on this card, has not moved the needle and in spite of a whopping $150M *+ budgets. I do not believe today that a star cast or well known names in the movies drive audiences. I think stars on You Tube and TikTok have more cultural cache than ever before. This is not the first time a movie with heavy hitters on the card and budgets the size of nations GDPs has flopped. Either there is too much money around causing an inflation or a deliberate decision to drive subscribers to a platform - in this case AppleTV+ who are picking up the tab. But at what cost? Ideally, theatricals are the best experiences when done right between the producers, distribution and exhibitor pipeline. There is still a legitimate business model for movies to open in the theatricals windows. A global audience exists who will go to cinemas. However it is going to take more than a poster or star cast to build brand love and awareness to create community and drive the value of digital windows. But if you are one and the same - in the sense you are the theatrical and digital window such as Apple and Amazon - then it becomes a zero sum game and I am not sure how one justifies the bottom line.
Hollywood creative and industrial mayhem continues as 200M$ ‘Argylle’ crashes at box-office. 😱

Independent film makers have tools that engage the viewer at a experiential level, a film isn't only about the words but the holistic setting and environment of the film for the viewer to get immersed. Cinematic language is explained in how we experience film. Light / Color - communicated to our subconscious to make us like or dislike a character , tense or relaxed Picture - Eyes read the setting, mood, vybes, pace of the story communicated the story Sound or Silence - Ears pick the vibrations, intensity, depth of the story as each sound tells a story as each story is multi dimensional. Words - they vocalize /explain the above three key elements of film making. Lighting, Picture and Sound tell half the story ( theatre of the mind ) the unsaid, the suggested and the unknown. Words fill in the void to humanize the characters. In pre production enough time should be spent ensuring the three elements are mapped and blocked for each scene. Then the words come in to support the story. Slow burn movies use all the three elements extensively to tell the story. Everything on a movie is intentional to get the audience immersed into the film. ( Excerpts from a discussion in Film makers roundtable ) https://lnkd.in/dVQXdRUP
