Question the 'heroic approach'. Here is my quick analysis of the AO Tennis Final on Sunday night. Medvedev played superior tennis but wasn't able to maintain the level of performance. Medvedev would have been better off playing the long game and outplaying Sinner during the crucial points. That would have been playing 'smarter not harder'. Playing the long-game takes patience and courage. It's a lot like a career in agency recruitment! #rec2rec #recruiterlife #worksmarternotharder

When it comes to playing tennis, I prefer doubles. Singles is demanding in terms of energy, and not sustainable for long at this age. But doubles offer a unique challenge that goes beyond physical endurance—it’s all about coordination and trust. At first glance, doubles might seem like it requires less effort, but in reality, it demands a high level of synchronisation. Coordination is crucial because each player instinctively takes on specific roles during a match—whether it’s controlling the net or managing the baseline. Trust is equally important, as you constantly depend on your partner’s judgement and calls to succeed. Building this coordination takes time, and trust doesn’t develop in the game itself. Through rallies and extended points, partners learn to read each other’s abilities and make strategic decisions. It’s essential to evaluate your partner’s strengths and weaknesses to capitalise on opportunities and go for the kill. This dynamic is much like starting a new role at work. Initial induction is immediate, but it takes time to build trust with your colleagues. Your teamwork and coordination improve gradually through sustained effort and shared challenges. For those just beginning, patience and perseverance are key. With time and dedication, you’ll become the best version of yourself, both on the court and in your professional life.

Another great game with Jack Stroud Angus Donaldson and Scott Lenham this morning. As I traded my work shoes for trainers this morning it hit me: Playing paddle tennis is a lot like the recruitment process and here's why: Strategic Moves: Just like in paddle tennis, recruitment is about making strategic moves. Whether it's finding the perfect player for your team or the ideal candidate for a Client, each decision counts. Effective Communication: On the court, communication with your partner is key. The same goes for recruitment. Clear, effective communication ensures everyone is on the same page, moving towards a common goal. Adaptability: Paddle tennis rallies can change in an instant. Similarly, recruitment requires adaptability. Being able to pivot and adjust strategies based on the evolving needs of the game (or market) is crucial. Team Dynamics: When playing doubles the synergy with your partner is crucial. In recruitment, building a team with complementary skills and a shared vision is the secret sauce for success. #Summitsearch #Recruitment #financialmarkets
