This week Kevin J. Prince and I attended an entrepreneurship workshop by the Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft / Helmholtz Association and ASPER-HUJI Innovate . Special thanks to Sharon Levite-Vaknin and Amnon Dekel, PhD for making it so insightful and engaging! What was unique was that all participants were researchers from various Helmholtz centres. Naturally, most ideas were based on visionary research topics and if successful, had the potential to change the world in areas such as solar power, farming in vast oceans, spotting deep fakes, early cancer or epilepsy detection, preventing asthma, treating malaria, and dealing with antibiotic resistance. It was a reminder of why challenging, risky scientific research are well worth the time, effort and public money. I would encourage more researchers among my peers to consider the path of #Impactentrepreneurship because they: 1. have field expertise and; 2. can get encouragement, and flexibility to experiment in their research centres which one will be really hard-pressed to find in a private company.
