October 7. My birthday :-). Which I shared this year with the launch of Hera, yay! The Hera mission is a significant collaboration between European Space Agency - ESA, Impact AI, Terra Mater Studios, and Microsoft Austria. Its goal? To protect Earth from potential cosmic threats by developing technologies to deflect asteroids from a collision course with Earth. Hera builds on the findings of NASA's DART mission, which first demonstrated in 2022 that such deflections are possible. At Microsoft Ignite, our global platform for technological innovations, the Hera Space Companion was introduced – an interactive, AI-powered assistant that makes the mission accessible to everyone. Users can gain real-time insights into space research, follow the mission, and experience the fascination of space exploration up close. https://lnkd.in/eagvHJ9f The development team from Kyiv, NVS-know, has won the international hackathon organized by NASA, Space Apps Challenge 2024. This was announced by Roman Malkevych, the local lead of the event in Kyiv. This year, more than 90,000 people from different parts of the world participated in the competition, forming about 10,000 teams. Only the top 40 projects made it to the finals, from which NASA judges selected 10 global winners. The Ukrainian team won the "Galactic Impact" nomination. The NVS-knot team is developing a tool to assess planting conditions using soil moisture data from SMAP and evapotranspiration data from OpenET. The goal is to help farmers overcome the challenges associated with changing weather patterns, droughts, and floods. As a reminder, a total of three Ukrainian teams made it to the final list of the hackathon. The other two projects are starry sky visualizations by LazyVarenyky and exoplanet exploration chronicles by Craft Lab. What is the NASA Space Apps Challenge? The NASA Space Apps Challenge is an annual international hackathon held under the auspices of NASA since 2012. Participants from around the world receive a task from the space agency to propose innovative solutions in 48 hours. The next NASA Space Apps Challenge hackathon will take place on October 4-5, 2025. #NASA #Ukraine #SpaceAppsChallenge

Rocketing into the Future: How SpaceX is Redefining Space Travel One Launch at a Time SpaceX isn’t just reaching for the stars in 2024; it’s aiming to make them a weekend destination. With Starship poised for its next big leap and Starlink blanketing the Earth in high-speed internet, Elon Musk’s space juggernaut is turning what once was science fiction into tomorrow’s reality. As SpaceX gears up to land astronauts on the Moon and beyond, it’s clear: the future of space travel is happening now, and SpaceX is leading the countdown. SpaceX is currently pushing forward with multiple groundbreaking projects in 2024, with a significant focus on its Starship program. Starship is poised to be the most powerful rocket ever built, designed to be fully reusable and aimed at revolutionizing space travel and exploration. The company is gearing up for the fifth test flight of Starship, which follows a series of tests that have provided valuable data for refining the rocket's design. This next flight is expected to demonstrate key improvements, particularly in the integration and functionality of its Super Heavy booster and upper stage (Space.com). Additionally, SpaceX continues to ramp up its Starlink satellite constellation, aiming to provide global high-speed internet coverage. In August 2024 alone, the company launched multiple missions to deploy additional Starlink satellites, further expanding its network (Spaceflight Now). Furthermore, SpaceX is heavily involved in crewed missions, including those under NASA's Artemis program, which seeks to return humans to the Moon. Starship has been selected as the lander for the Artemis III mission, slated for 2025 or 2026, marking a crucial milestone in the endeavor to establish a sustainable human presence on the Moon (Space.com). These projects highlight SpaceX's commitment to advancing space exploration, making 2024 a pivotal year for the company.
