⁉ Historically, progress in #publichealth has been driven primarily by #innovation. Over the past years, innovation in healthcare has become more widespread with the COVID-19 pandemic, and now involves a wider range of players than ever before. However, the pandemic has also slowed the implementation of the health-related #SDGs. It has also made fragile health systems even more vulnerable. These pressures have had a negative impact on trust, funding and the health #workforce, against an increasingly challenging backdrop of non-communicable diseases (#NCDs), #climate change and new threats to health #security. In order to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow without leaving the most vulnerable populations behind, more and better healthcare innovations are needed. 🥐 The French government has taken steps to support innovation in healthcare, encouraging collaboration between the public and private sectors through its “Health Innovation 2030 Plan”. As part of it, the #HealthInnovationAgency has been coordinating, through its roadmap, initiatives aimed at encouraging innovations that are beneficial to patient health and the organisation of care, in order to provide rapid and effective access to these advances. These includes the healthtech component of the national #Deeptech plan, dedicated to nuggets developing breakthrough innovations. 🐨 Australia has unveiled a 5-year plan, the #NationalDigitalHealthStrategy 2023-2028, that aims for a connected, secure, inclusive, and ethical healthcare system, embracing innovations. The strategy aligns with the era of precision medicine, reflecting a shift towards personalized and preventative healthcare. 📢 Want to be amaze by great innovations in health? Earlier this month, I had the privilege of moderating a panel discussion with four leaders from top healthcare institutions in the US and EU. We discussed why each of them has become more sustainability-focused in their work in healthcare. There can be a true symbiotic relationship between these two worlds, and indeed, there must be. After all, the planet doesn't need people - but people certainly need the planet! As Dr. Elizabeth Morris said, "Sustainability shouldn’t be an additional burden. It needs to be pervasive in all aspects of our work. Sustainability can make a clinician’s day better by improving efficiencies." Spotlighting the role of health professionals, Dr Horton also elaborated on how healthcare professionals can lead change, in the move to a net zero future. He brought up health as a unique and unifying indicator of progress, especially in the field of sustainability, and stressed the importance of taking a holistic approach to sustainability, by thinking about complex interdisciplinary strategies #healthcaresustainability #multidisciplinary

Lancée il y a 2 ans, La French Care a été créée pour rassembler une large communauté d’acteurs de la #santé en France. Plus de 700 acteurs publics et privés en sont désormais membres. Le mouvement a pour objectifs d’œuvrer au décloisonnement, favoriser les synergies, accélérer l'innovation et accompagner les acteurs de la santé dans leur transformation continue. We can’t believe the European Health Summit is already over #ehs2023 😯 We had the pleasure and honour to welcome 🇪🇺  Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders, Head of Cabinet of VP Suiča Colin Scicluna, Head of Cabinet of Commissioner Kyriakides Giorgos Rossides, 💊 Executive Director of the European Medicines Agency Emer Cooke, Acting Director-General of HERA Laurent Muschel and Director for Health & Multilateral Partnerships of the World Health Organization Dr Gaudenz Silberschmidt, among other high-level representatives from the EU institutions and industry leaders. 👇Some of the takeaways from the Summit 👇 💊 The pharmaceutical industry in Europe has a profound impact on the European economy and plays a role as a significant contributor to the region’s economic landscape. When developing the Healthcare policy, the EU has to take into consideration local and European perspectives to harmonise the diverse healthcare landscapes within individual nations while aligning with broader regional objectives. 🐾The “One Health” approach can contribute to developing sustainable healthcare systems. By breaking down barriers in healthcare, prioritising comprehensive preparedness, and recognising the interconnectedness of human and animal health, we can foster resilience in the face of global challenges. 🧪There is a critical need for stronger collaboration across sectors to advance research and development for unmet needs, particularly with improved communication, public-private partnerships, innovation task forces, and international collaboration. It can be achieved through transparent regulatory requirements, research incentives, and translating findings into effective policymaking. 💻 In the context of the European Health Data Space (EHDS), it is crucial to instal a balance between national and European dimensions in healthcare policies and to address critical issues such as the impact of ageing populations, evolving health concerns, and the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare. 📣 Let us conclude this recap with the salient words of Didier Reynders: “Competition is needed to boost innovation.
