Reckless Driving And DUI Traffic Stops: Is it true that these are some of the most dangerous stop for officers?? 💔💔💔 Disclaimer: This content is in part for educational purposes. A man opens fire with an automatic rifle during a traffic stop by officers from the Los Angeles Police Department. One officer says, "What'd he hit us with, dude? “Before officers could exit the police vehicle, the suspect, armed with a fully automatic weapon, fired at officers without warning,” LAPD said. One officer was grazed twice by the shots. They caught the shooter, and he faces multiple charges, including attempted murder. Guns are not the issue, criminals getting away with lower level crimes and escalating is the issue. Until there are serious repercussions this is only going to get worse.

Officers need MORE training in situational awareness for this type of situation.

On average, police in the United States shoot and kill more than 1,000 people every year, according to an ongoing analysis by The Washington Post. After Michael Brown, an unarmed Black man, was killed in 2014 by police in Ferguson, Mo., a Post investigation found that data reported to the FBI on fatal police shootings was undercounted by more than half. That gap has widened in recent years. By 2021, only a third of departments’ fatal shootings appeared in the FBI database. This is largely because local police departments are not required to report these incidents to the federal government. Also compounding the problem: an updated FBI system for reporting data and confusion among local law enforcement about reporting responsibilities. [Mass shootings: Tracking gun violence in the U.S.] As part of its investigation, The Post began in 2015 to log every person shot and killed by an on-duty police officer in the United States. Since then, reporters have recorded thousands of deaths. In 2022, The Post updated its database to standardize and publish the names of the police agencies involved in each shooting to better measure accountability at the department level. How 2024 compares with previous calendar years The number of fatal police shootings has risen slightly in recent years. Police killed the highest number of people on record in 2023.

Banning assault weapons? Make the manufacturers liable for gun violence? Background checks? Change the 2nd Amendment - really? How on earth are these measures ever going to ever get sanctioned with such an opinionated & even split in the US and how are they meant to have an immediate impact, which is what is needed here? Work on this stuff in the background for sure, but even if the USA could land these measures, they will take a generation to demonstrate positive results. If you have an impact scale - on one end is total 'Removal of the Problem' and on the other end is 'Problem that cant be solved’ then maybe a good place to start is in the middle of the scale with 'Manage the problem more successfully’? Katherine Schweit, J.D., CCEP is on the money here. By putting in place a range of mitigation measures, by training & equipping those at the sharp end more effectively, by educating those with responsibility over crowded spaces (places of worship, schools, academies, shopping malls, sports venues) and layering security to protect the vulnerable. Katherine constantly states that the ‘Public is the key to ending the mass shooting crisis’. She also says to become familiar with the FBI and Homeland Security's recommended RUN. HIDE. FIGHT. training which was created as a simple way to aid the public on how to survive an active shooter incident. I concur. I would also add that Multi-Agency response coordination, multi-agency command training and impartial post incident review also have a role to play here....Tim Cutbill, Paul Burnham and I were at the centre of the UK’s Marauding Attack policies. The headlines for Mass-Shootings are never going to read well? Devastation takes seconds. Entire families destroyed in the blink of an eye and communities devastated by cowardly extremists who clearly do not care.... The bloodshed in Alabama marked the third high-profile mass shooting in as many weeks in southern US, following separate outbreaks of deadly gun violence in Tennessee and Kentucky that prompted local leaders to call for tighter gun control measures. Dadeville itself was shaken by at least one prior mass shooting in August of 2016, when a gunman wounded five people during a party at an American Legion hall, according to the Montgomery Advertiser. Biden called the rising gun violence in the US “outrageous and unacceptable,” and urged the country’s Congress to pass laws to make firearms manufacturers more liable for gun violence, ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines, and require safe storage of firearms and background checks for gun sales. Our thoughts are with you all....

In addition to the number of Assaults/Attacks against Officers being at a 10 year high, it seems that attacks on Officers with knives are increasing as well. In the last several weeks, there have been numerous Officer attacked with and even stabbed by individuals armed with knives. While knife attacks do not attract the same media coverage as assaults committed against Officers with firearms, knives are just as dangerous and deadly guns and knives can be deadly even if there is originally distance between the Officer and the suspect since it takes mere seconds for the armed assailant to cover the distances of 15-20-30 feet. Anyone who has ever seen what a knife can do to a person in a quick period of time will tell you that. No matter what the mental condition of the subject is or their age, any suspect armed with a knife is dangerous. When possible, Officers should try to gain distance, deescalate the situation, and/or use less than lethal tools upon subject who is armed with a knife. But they must always be ready to utilize lethal force and the second the subject becomes a danger to the Officer, another Officer, or the public lethal force should be used without hesitation. When instances like this happen, there are always a few “dreamers” that have no idea what a critical incident is like or the feeling of confronting a dangerous person with a knife that will say, “It’s only a knife, you should have just ran backwards or hit him with the baton or pepper sprayed him. You didn’t need to shoot him.” When these people show up, it is the duty of the leader of that Law Enforcement Agency to clearly, loudly, and in no uncertain terms declare their 100% percent support of the Officers and the Officers actions and tell they public in public meetings, in the media, and every time the question is raised in any forum that the only person to blame for this incident was the criminal with the knife. Leaders need to train their Officers to be prepared for such deadly encounters and then support their Officers when they experience such critical events. Doing anything else is a leadership failure. #police #policeofficer #policeofficers #officer #officers #lawenforcement #lawenforcementofficer #policechief #policedepartment #sheriff #deputy #cop #cops #copscountpolicematter #policematter #policingmatters #policing #policeman #publicsafety #communitysafety #protectandserve #criminaljustice #leadership #law International Association of Chiefs of Police Police Executive Research Forum FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. I was an ortho trauma/hand surgeon in Chicago for 40 years. The train stop in the pic is just south of the "Gold Coast" downtown area. Train stations and areas under "the el" have had rashes of violent crime including robberies of cell phones, murder, and pushing riders onto the train tracks. Putting our violent crime problem into some perspective: -Lack of consequences: The Cook County State's Attorneys office was a revolving door under Kim Foxx. Thankfully, she will not be running for re-election. Experienced prosecutors have left the office partially for this reason. Local judges have commented that human brains are not fully developed until age 24 or so, so how can we hold people accountable for their actions before then? If arrested, there is no bail and the offender is usually back on the street in hours. -Roadblocks to concealed carry: It is possible to obtain a concealed carry permit in Chicago but there is a six month or longer backup in processing the paperwork. There are also no training facilities in the city but they are available in the suburbs. -Public areas such as parks, schools, hospitals and many private establishments are "gun free zones." -Transporting firearms in vehicles makes them legally unavailable to law abiding citizens. What to do? -The odds are somewhat stacked against you but: -Have your "head on a swivel" also called "Condition Yellow" by Col. Jeff Cooper or "relaxed awareness." Be a people watcher. -Don't travel alone in deserted areas. -Get concealed carry/self defense training despite the impediments. -Stay off your phone in public. Pay attention to your surroundings. -Avoid late night travel if possible. Realize that your safety is at least partially your responsibility. You may not be a sheepdog but please don't be a sheep. Good luck!

🚨🚨 A 61-year-old woman was beaten brutally, resulting in brain-death - while she was alone on a Chicago train. Her assailant was an eight-time felon out on parole for assaulting and robbing an undercover police officer. This is just ONE recent example of how these far-left policies are destroying our country. #REPOST for awareness!!! #lawenforcement #thinblueline

Bank Mental Health Support Worker at P3 | Third-Year Criminology Student Seeking Practical Experience in the Crime Field
This video depicting police brutality towards a man is disgraceful and highlights a severe abuse of power. These actions undermine public trust and safety. However, this tragic incident of police brutality isn't an isolated case. The harrowing story of Sarah Everard, who was murdered by a serving police officer, shocked the world and highlighted the serious systemic issues within law enforcement. It's absolutely devastating that such individuals, who should protect the public, instead abuse their power. This pattern of misconduct underscores the urgent need for reform within the policing system. We must hold these perpetrators accountable and implement stricter measures to prevent such abuses and restore public trust. This is not just a legal issue but a moral one; accountability and change are essential. #PoliceBrutality #JusticeForVictims #SystemicReform #Accountability #EndAbuseOfPower #ProtectTheVulnerable #PublicSafety #HumanRights

Retired Surgeon, DonQuixote wannabe, dreaming impossible dream. Devoting my energies promoting public health serving on the board of the Partnership for Public Health with special interest in gun violence prevention.
As I listen to the news coverage of the DOJ’s report on the Uvalde school shooting I first think of the families of those who were killed. I can’t begin to imagine how they feel hearing about the failures of law enforcement that tragic day. I am sure families of victims from Columbine, Sandy Hook, Parkland and all the rest of the shootings, too many to list, have had their psychic wounds torn open knowing the loss of their children failed to motivated us to make real changes to stop this madness. I also wonder how every police department and individual policeman and woman hasn’t made it clear to everyone that the primary reason the army of law enforcement that waited 77 minutes to act against this shooter was they were outgunned by a 19 year old with an AR 15. Isn’t that the strongest arguement for banning these weapons? Why aren’t they campaigning to ban AR 15s and other high velocity automatic weapons? There is no reason untrained citizens should have access to weapons of war. Relevant history lesson, the 2nd amendment regarding the right to bear arms was enacted in 1790’s when the public were the militia, there was no standing army or police force. So yes, I guess we are coming for this specific type of gun because there is no sane, coherent reason you should be allowed to own them. https://lnkd.in/eh2D7wvB
