Today „Food4CE“ and „FOODIS“ joined forced in evaluating potentials and common learnings - the cross-project workshop initiated by the Austrian partners ECONSULT Betriebsberatungsges.m.b.H. and LCA Logistik Center Austria Süd GmbH Süd marked the initial set-up to share experiences from innovation hub and pilot activities. 🚚📦👨🌾🌾 💡 Both projects focus on sustainable logistics and networks for food supply in Europe by addressing the specific topics of Alternative Food Networks (AFNs), Short Food Supply Chains (SFSC) and Circular Economy in the agriculture and food industry! 🎯 Best practices and cluster activities will be set up to target a wide network of stakeholders, nevertheless it is evident, that systematic policy support will be crucial to draw up success stories! 🌱🌏 This year, APSA's 29th Asian Seed Congress, co-hosted with the China National Seed Trade Association (#CNSTA) and the Sanya city government, is being organized around the central theme "Riding the Wave of Growth in the Asia-Pacific." Considering that our vast region is positioned to be a strategic supplier of quality germplasm for the rest of the world in the coming decade, the second of three sub-themes of this year’s Congress is: "Accelerating and Safeguarding Innovation." 🚀🔒 This will continue to be a critical topic and solution to address a number of urgent challenges linked to the changing climate and landscape of our industry. Increased plant pests and diseases, and ultimately reduced yields, spell a sustained food and famine crisis ahead. Super timely launch this week of The Aotearoa Circle and Chapman Tripp's latest report: "Protecting #NewZealand's Competitive Advantage", coinciding with the return from Auckland University of Technology's mid-semester break and a topical insertion into today's lecture on #Sustainable #SupplyChains and #Procurement. The headline that "...80% of New Zealand's exports by value [are] going to markets that have mandatory #ESG #reporting in force or proposed" is sure to be a conversation starter for #students and #businesses alike. Huge kudos to the Chapman Tripp team that sifted through both the rapidly evolving global #regulatory environment as well as the ever-fulsome #trade agreements. It's pretty clear that as it has for some time been unacceptable for businesses to export #HealthAndSafety risks to geographies with lower regulatory standards, reducing domestic #environmental standards is a false economy in the global marketplace that we operate. Many people will be attending the conversation festival LAMPA this weekend, where on July 5th, the Balticovo AS Head of Development and Communications, Toms Auskaps, will also be participating. Toms has been invited to take part in three discussions: ✨The first discussion is "Food Self-Sufficiency – Is It Important to Us and to What Extent?" Toms reveals that this could be an interesting discussion for at least two reasons. "Firstly, food self-sufficiency, just like energy independence and other areas, is a security issue, especially considering the geopolitical situation. Secondly, it is also an economic development issue - of course, food can be imported from places where it is cheaper, but food self-sufficiency helps the local market develop and, if there are surpluses, they can be exported, thereby increasing the country's prosperity."  🏡 The discussion will take place in the Rural Tent (Lauku telts) 🕞 From 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. ✨The second discussion is "From Words to Deeds - Sustainable Financing for Entrepreneurs!", organized by Swedbank on their Sustainability Stage. For Balticovo, a company that is in constant development, the issue of sustainable financing is relevant, so this could be an exciting discussion about the cooperation between banks and companies. 🏡 The discussion will be in the @Swedbank Sustainability Tent 🕡 From 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. ✨ Finally - the fun part - the discussion "Can You Learn More from Your Mistakes than in School?"  Toms notes, "It is important to learn not only from your own mistakes but also from those of others and preferably not repeat them. I believe we should hear both success stories that inspire and failures that allow us to learn. The question is - do we crave more inspiration or experience gained from mistakes? "By evaluating project continuity, the scale of industry investments following project completion, and the proliferation of innovative biorefineries across Europe, it becomes clear that CBE JU has been essential in transitioning from initial project successes to widespread industrial application." There are many funding instruments, tools, initiatives - both at international and national level - out there. Measuring the success of each of them is not always obvious. As always, numbers don't lie. And there is a number of evidences demonstrating that Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) is achieving its objectives and is impacting on the European innovation landscape. The path for defossilising European economy is still long and complex. This independent study gives us even more motivation and recognition to accomplish the huge work is still left to do.
