The new, permanent Summer EBT program begins in 2024, and states that have submitted their Notice of Intents must submit a Plan for Operations and Management by February 15. While the timeline for planning is tight, it is critical that states make every effort to utilize best practices from past programs to maximize participation. CFES Brilliant Pathways has published its 2024 Annual Report on the Young Men of Talent (YMT) program, a partnership with the University of Vermont, business executives and community leaders. “Celebrate Achievement & Chart the Future” reviews the pilot program’s success to date and defines the goals for the future. It’s a fact that the potential of too many skilled young Black and Brown men is being lost, not through any failing of their own, but because they have been failed. However talented they may be, these young men all too often lack access to the social, economic and academic resources that shepherd other young people through college and into rewarding careers. “The most significant challenge that stymies young Black and Brown men who want to attend college, start businesses, own homes and move up the income ladder is the lack of a network. A web of contacts, role models and relationships is instrumental for getting young people to and through college and for ensuring that they find and succeed in well-paying jobs,” says Rick Dalton, President and Co-CEO of CFES Brilliant Pathways. The YMT program reverses that trend through formal and informal mentoring, networking, internships and more. In subsequent years, CFES will build YMT programs in high schools and colleges throughout the country.
