Fresh food lockers provide food support to those in our community who have barriers accessing other food programs. Thank you American Women's Club of Southern Ontario for sponsoring the operation of our lockers at Central Library in Oakville — your support truly makes a difference in the lives of our neighbours.

Christina Adane is absolutely right to call out the problematic relationship between #junkfood and young people’s health. The increasing number of junk food #advertising bans is a great first step in doing so. But we also have to acknowledge how much more work there is to do. I like Christina’s idea of food businesses opening their doors to host creative meet-ups for young people, but who decides which food business is healthy enough? Where does the money come from to do this, if not from sales? And how many would need to do so to displace the chicken shop as the de facto youth centre it has become? I can’t help but feel the lack of spaces for young people is a government failing that the #foodindustry is being asked to fix. Do any of my connections have examples of this being done successfully? #food #foodpolicy #youngpeople #children #obesity #publichealth #obesogenic #foodenvironment #adban
We must break the link between junk food and youth culture. Absolutely! Check out this brilliant column from one of our amazing Council members Christina Adane in The Grocer this week: "...Nurturing the next generation is as much about community as it is food. Food business owners should open their doors to young people and support our creative communities. As long as junk food has a monopoly on youth culture, our collective dream of a more attractive, accessible food system will be out of reach." https://lnkd.in/exP_S5v3

Here is a thought piece that wonderfully captures the interesections of commercial determinants (#CDOH), #foodsystems, #creativity, and youth culture, filling a critical gap and pointing to important solutions. Public health, food system transformation, and youth development efforts would do well to provide physical spaces, nourishment, and materials that young people need to nurture their creative talents and ideas. This can help give them an alternative to relying on global ultra-processed foods, sugar sweetened beverage, and alcohol companies for event sponsorship, while linking youth identities with nutritious, sustainable, and ethical foods. Would love your thoughts, Ignited Word.

Hunger and food insecurity remain pressing issues, particularly in low-income communities where access to nutritious food is often limited. The challenge of ensuring everyone has enough to eat is multifaceted, involving economic, social, and logistical hurdles. While the challenge of ending hunger and food insecurity is significant, it is not insurmountable. By embracing the principle that everyone can help someone, we can build a robust network of support that ensures all members of our community have access to nutritious food. Whether through direct action, advocacy, or innovation, every contribution brings us one step closer to a world without hunger.

Extract from the publication stated thus! The city is also concerned with the overall health and welfare of our homeless residents. We're asking these groups to not centralize their efforts around Penn Station, but to connect coordinate and partner with our 23 homeless shelters and 55 food pantries and soup kitchens throughout the city. Nevertheless, Mayor Ras J. Baraka (he) cannot factually substantiate that there are 55 food pantries & soup kitchens throughout the city. Especially, for the reasoning that the time-tested fact is that any food pantry and soup kitchen registered as serving Essex County residents cannot be considered as member of City of Newark’ food pantry & soup kitchen even to the complete knowing of Mr. Ras J. Baraka or Mayor Ras J. Baraka accordingly. Even so the time-tested legally cognizant fact is that NJ properties & premises located within City of Newark area is not (cannot be considered or seen as) same as City of Newark properties accordingly. Furthermore, it can be constructively, rationalized at the least "plausibly" that coordinating & partnering with existing food pantries as include soup kitchens can be at the least plausible alibi for escaping payment of "permit fees" or "suppose permit fees" which can be the latent principal reasoning for Mayor Ras J. Baraka's brazen frivolous positioning that serves not broad public interest agenda. Therefore, clearly discerned is that there is beyond Prima facie evidence evidencing that the brazen, reckless shrewd egregious method of commandeering the resources of law abiding privately operated food pantries owned by federal IRS registered “not-for-profit making business “company or companies” deployed by Mayor Ras J. Baraka and “co-conspirators or advisers” must come as fundamentally unconstitutional hence must be “struck down” even by time-tested progressives for compelling good cause meritoriously, indeed. “Indeed, truth is the greatest and the most beautiful expression of God that you will ever find on this planet.” – Saint Goo-Ling, an Ascended Master, speaking through the trance mediumship of Dr. George King. https://lnkd.in/eJEBeWeu https://lnkd.in/eqB5fTc7 Please kindly, click below as the gospel musicians with due diligence gingerly, nimble humble humility shepherded by instinctive sense of etherealness - gracefulness, "fire it points blank" home for your listening pleasure! https://lnkd.in/eeYCwN6h Deceptive business practices are an offense & avoid all appearance of impropriety as hitherto declared mandatory by Cannons of judicial conduct codes also known as rules governing the courts accordingly. Over 200 food pantry leaders from across our city provided their expert input on how state policies can fight food insecurity among New Yorkers who are grappling with the high cost of living. In partnership with Food Bank For New York City and United Way of New York City, our city’s three largest anti-hunger organizations, we identified three ways that State policies can help create food secure futures: 1. Get more food to people who need it by investing in the emergency food system and expanding SNAP benefits and eligibility 2. Make childcare affordable to help alleviate a key factor in higher food insecurity rates for families 3. Improve housing stability to protect New Yorkers who are rent-burdened and 3X as likely to experience food insecurity We recently sent these policy priorities in a letter to Governor Hochul. Community initiatives play a vital role in combating food insecurity among Toronto's college students. Jane Doe’s article, “Community Efforts in Combating Hunger” (2023) in The Local, showcases inspiring stories of volunteers and local organizations stepping up to fill the gap. Doe writes, “Grassroots initiatives are proving to be a lifeline for many, yet more support is needed” (Doe, 2023). This article emphasizes the importance of local efforts and the ongoing need for resources to support these initiatives. Check out this compelling piece in the latest issue of The Local. #thelocal #foodinsecurities
