Passionate Dietitian | School Nutrition Advocate | Leadership & Communications Trainer | Community Wellness | Using Innovative Strategies to Increase Meal Access to Students
Breakfast has always been the most important meal of the day. Because it sets the foundation for everything that follows. So, for those who skip it, I ask: → If students don’t eat breakfast, how can they stay focused in class? → Why compromise their energy levels before the day even begins? → Is it worth risking their academic performance? In my experience, and that of many experts, skipping breakfast leads to: → Poor concentration and memory → Low energy and mood swings → Decreased academic performance So, students, parents, and educators, let’s treat breakfast as a non-negotiable necessity. If we want our students to excel, a nutritious breakfast is the solution, not a problem. Let’s make breakfast a must-have for every student. It's The Week of the Young Child! Tasty Tuesday isn’t just about eating your favorite snacks together. It’s also about cooking together 🧑🍳👩🍳 and connecting math with literacy skills and science while introducing ways to incorporate healthy habits into children’s lifestyles. Here's an easy idea to incorporate some learning while walking through the grocery store next time or even at home using the food containers in your kitchen. Look for letters everywhere—on food labels, signs in the store, and magazines on the racks at checkout. Give your child a packaged food item, like a box of cereal. Point out different letters (start with the first letter in your child’s name) on the food item and ask your child to find more of those letters on other foods in the store. #ECEwins #WOYC24 #TastyTuesday #OHSAI #HeadStart #EarlyHeadStart

At The Goddard School® of The Goddard School - Honey Creek, we love seeing all of the creative lunches your children bring to School. We also know that packing lunch can be tedious for many reasons. Make it a little more fun with these great lunch hacks for busy families! 🍎 Freeze foods like yogurt, apple sauce pouches, and juice boxes ahead of time. They’ll thaw in time for lunch! 🍎 Use cupcake liners to separate food in lunch boxes. 🍎 Make your own crustless sandwiches with a mason jar, round cookie cutter, or crimper. 🍎 Place plastic wrap over foods that may leak, like watermelon or salad dressing, in a bento-style lunch box. 🍎 Slice a slit into a banana to help your child peel it easier. Don’t slice too much because you don’t want it to brown. Extra credit: Write a cute note or draw a silly face on the banana peel with edible markers or a toothpick!

Are double yolks lucky? If they are, I was very lucky when I was making omelettes the other day. Not pictured but I broke 6 eggs and FOUR were double yolks! What are the chances? Eggs are the best thing to start cooking with with your children. They are so versatile. From cracking to mixing, from omelette to scrambled egg to French toast. Having children be involved in cooking gives them skills they can take through adult hood. I always give them one cup to put the egg into and one to put the shell in, do it near the sink and actively clean up with them. And if shell gets in the cup? Dont worry, use the other piece of the shell as it cuts through the albumen and you can retrieve it. Pour it into a bowl to give children more access/vosibility. Then once they have cracked those simple dishes (see what I did there) you can start adding other ingredients and make other recipes with egg! For more ideas on bringing learning to life in the kitchen, my award-winning book ‘More to Mealtimes- how to learn almost anything in the kitchen and make mealtimes easier’ is available on Amazon or message me for a signed copy for just £10! #eggs #childdevelopment #nanny #learning #cookingwithchildren #doubleyolk
