One of the sightings that you can see in the ocean is the purple and yellow nudibranch – Risbecia Apolegma. Small in size, they are a sight to behold underwater. However, as beautiful as these creature are, they are toxic. The tentacles on their heads are highly sensitive, assisting them to smell, taste, and feel their way around. Although our behavior can minimize or increase the risk. - Try to avoid being in shallow waters and be very efficient exiting a dive. The most relaxing encounters happen deeper than 5 meters. - Swim in a vertical position. - keep eye contact. And only raise your fins at the direction of the shark. Never swim back/towards, kick, push or use your alternate air source to scare them. Just remain calm. - Always be close as a group, keep the same depth level and never corner the shark with the reef or in between divers. - Choose only professional credible operators for such dives. Last but not least, don’t dive with sharks if you’re scared of them! One of the advantages to diving along the margins of La Jolla Canyon (San Diego County, Southern California, USA) is that occasionally we see uncommon to rare species that drift up from the depths. One of these less common species is the threadfin sculpin (Icelinus filamentosus). The threadfin sculpin is normally found at depths of 18 to 480 meters, and this one was hanging out in just 10 meters of water. West coast sculpins have evolved to inhabit almost all marine ecological niches and threadfin are just one of 50 or so sculpin species found in CA waters. It is distinguished by a dorsal fin with greatly elongated first and second spines. This particular individual had spectacular red markings on the head and flanks, and may have been a male. We have on rare occasion observed pairs of threadfin sculpins, with one being more colorful and having longer dorsal fin "filaments." The assumption here is that the females are more drably colored.

‘Welcome to Jurassic Park …’ The unseen sign … In reception areas, sales managers offices and boardrooms across the land there sits an unseen sign. “Welcome to Jurassic Park - we have always done it this way.” How many times have the infamous words … “We have always done it this way” been used in your business …? It is the stock reply to many a question such as why do you do that/use that/ask that/have that there/use that process etc etc If the speed of change outside your business is faster than the speed of change within, then you’re in trouble! Yet so many organisations simply do what they have always done without considering that there may be better ways. Another stalwart of the high street, The Body Shop, has succumbed this week and whilst they certainly did innovate over the last few years, sadly they have been unable to stem the losses. ‘We have always done it this way’ isn’t a mission statement … and I don’t believe it should ever be used as a response or a way of operating a business.
