According to the World Economic Forum, The Netherlands is making little progress in closing the gender gap. For the third year, our country ranks 28th worldwide in the WEF's indicator of inequality between men and women. 🇳🇱 Many women in The Netherlands face career stagnation when they reach their 30s, often due to challenges related to pregnancy, care responsibilities and lack of existing female management. While there is still a lot of inequality, it’s encouraging to see that the numbers have been rising over the years. According to a study by the CBS, about 70% of women in the Netherlands are now financially independent, up from just 20% forty-five years ago. Isn’t that amazing? The article also talks about how women have had to fight for their economic rights. It’s shocking to think that until 1958, women were automatically fired from government jobs upon marriage. Thanks to persistent efforts and women’s strikes in the late 20th century, significant strides have been made towards equality. However, there’s still a wage gap that needs our attention. Women are still earning less than men, with a 5.1% difference in the public sector and a whopping 16.4% in the private sector. It’s particularly noticeable in top positions. On a personal note, I find it both inspiring and motivating to see how far we’ve come, but it also reminds me that there’s still work to be done. Let’s keep pushing for change, supporting each other, and fighting for the equality we deserve. What are your thoughts on this? Just ~100 years ago, women could not vote. In some countries, up until ~50 years ago, women could not open a bank account without a male relative's permission. Feminism has been instrumental in driving these changes, serving as a powerful catalyst for progress. However, our work towards true equality is far from over. Det obetalda arbetet innefattar alltifrån att sköta ett hushålls praktiska sysslor - till omsorgsarbete, planera, påminna, stötta och trösta. Det är ett i grunden livsviktigt arbete som gör det möjligt för familjer, relationer, ekonomier och samhällen att fungera och gå runt. Men det är ett arbete som ofta förbises och tas för givet. Skulle de få betalt för det skulle det i kronor motsvara en summa på nära 300 miljarder. UN Women arbetar för att stärka investeringar i det som kallas ”Care Economy" genom att sprida data och höja kunskapen kring kvinnors obetalda arbete. Foi publicado ontem o Relatório do Fórum Económico Mundial sobre a Disparidade de Género. Em 146 países avaliados, Cabo Verde ocupa a posição 41. Este Relatório traz-nos muitos dados importantes para análise, mas destaco a elevada classificação do país no que se refere à educação e saúde, onde a discrepância entre homens e mulheres praticamente não existe. A pior avaliação é no item " Mulheres Chefes de Estado", onde CV nunca teve uma única mulher, nem sequer uma candidata! Has Switzerland Achieved Gender Equality? A Recent Study Reveals a Perception Gap Between Men and Women, reports Le Temps The third National Barometer of Equality indicates a significant perception gap between Generation Z men and women regarding gender equality in Switzerland. According to the study, the majority of men believe Switzerland has achieved gender equality. Specifically, 67% of men think that housework is shared equally between genders, and 71% believe that women have the same career opportunities as men. In stark contrast, Gen Z women see the situation quite differently. Only 40% believe in equal sharing of housework, and just 48% think career opportunities are equal. The perception gap widens further concerning salaries, with only 20% of women agreeing that pay equality exists. What explains this disparity in perceptions? Firstly, many women have personally experienced gender discrimination and harassment, either at work or at home, whereas men are less affected by these issues. Additionally, young women feel safer and more empowered to speak out against violence, harassment, and discrimination, partly due to movements like #MeToo. While gender equality is making strides in Switzerland, this study underscores the ongoing need to advocate for gender equality and raise awareness about the remaining challenges.
