We are in a Pro-Aging Era and one thing I would tell my 20 somethings is to please stop getting Botox for “preventative” measures. I like Botox, I am not against it, however I think that it is being overused and there are possible negative outcomes that are often ignored. First of all, while generally a safe treatment, there are cases of adverse effects and some are very serious. From drooping eyes to full on botulism effects (check out @ang_ebs on instagram for her story) getting injections like Botox should not be taken lightly. Secondly, it’s expensive! Why start spending hundreds of dollars every few months when you can prevent aging concerns and focus on healthy skin with a great skincare routine. If you like facial treatments you can also go that route. Even a basic facial has wonderful benefits for the skin. You better believe that marketing Botox to people in their 20’s is a big money maker for injectors who are nabbing lifelong clients by injecting you in your 20’s. Does that mean it’s really the best option for you?? The data is also not completely solid as to how much prevention is actually happening and if you stop doing it how long any effects will last.
Finally, what message are we sending to our youth that aging is so terrible you need to take such drastic measures at such a young age to prevent it. Skin health is almost secondary to the anti-aging narrative given by many doctors, injectors and skin professionals. How many times have you been educated on a proper skin routine at your yearly checkup or injection appointment? Don’t get me wrong there are so many well rounded doctors and professionals that do look at the whole picture, but we need to rethink what we are placing such importance on to our young people. What do you think?

3moWith hair loss being a symptom of Covid, I am interested to know the growth in the category too. I saw the recent coverage around this with a few brands seeing spikes in related products. Not just for “male pattern baldness” but a broader category now. One to watch!
