Today is #WorldWetlandsDay, but every day should be dedicated to raising awareness and protecting the natural resources that are central to our well-being. Did you know that Florida's wetlands are not just beautiful, but also crucial for our environment and well-being? They filter water, prevent flooding, reduce carbon emissions, and support diverse wildlife. 🌊 🐟 🌿 Coastal Resilience Program Coordinator, Haley Cox recently shared with Florida Sea Grant about the environmental role salt marsh wetlands play on the Big Bend region of Florida. A few key takeaways we learned from Haley are: 1- Salt marshes in Florida are culturally & economically significant, supporting communities reliant on seafood production and ecotourism. 2- Salt marshes serve as crucial breeding, nesting, and foraging grounds for bird species, and act as exceptional nurseries for juvenile fish and other organisms by providing shelter from larger predators. 3- Salt marshes absorb, filter, and remove pollutants that impact water quality. ✨ Learn more about preserving Florida's coastline and salt marsh conservation efforts at UF Center for Coastal Solutions ✨ Click the link below to read the full interview and to learn more: https://bit.ly/3HLfa7w

Wetlands, surprisingly, are not always wet. Sometimes, that's their natural function. Sometimes, that's because in years gone by, their value in a landscape has been overlooked and they've been drained. Our Western Wetlands project over the last four years has been dedicated to identifying, improving, protecting, and evaluating wetlands in the south-west of our catchment. In partnerships with landholders and land managers, many of these wetland areas have been re-established ... often using the simplest of measures ... to ensure these areas and their high environmental values are reinstated in the working landscape of today. #workingtogether #CMAsGetItDone #learning #forestryandenvironment #agricultureandenvironment #allys #grabashovel #makingadifference #landscapescale This project is part of the Victorian Government’s $248 million investment over four years (2020-2024) to improve catchment and waterway health across regional Victoria. https://lnkd.in/gH-z-jMD Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action Jacinta Allan Harriet Shing SFM

In our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, SFM is proud to have played a supporting role in the restoration of the Castine Wetland on Limestone Estate. As land managers entrusted with overseeing diverse ecosystems, the revival of this critical wetland marks a significant milestone in our conservation efforts. Over the past four years, the Western Wetlands project has shed light on the essential yet often undervalued role of wetlands within our landscapes. Together with the Glenelg Hopkins CMA and in collaboration with dedicated landholders, we've embarked on a journey to identify, enhance, and protect the wetlands in Victoria's southwest, recognizing their immense ecological value. This initiative is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together for a common purpose. It underscores our responsibility towards the environment and highlights the impact of thoughtful, concerted efforts in landscape and sustainable forest management. As we celebrate this achievement, let's remember the role each of us plays in nurturing and preserving our planet. Our work on the Castine Wetland is just one example of how strategic partnerships and community engagement can lead to meaningful environmental restoration. #SFM #WetlandRestoration #EnvironmentalStewardship #CommunityCollaboration #SustainableManagement #ConservationSuccess #timberlands

We need to invest now for future generations as past of overall sustainability.
Natural lands protect our water and air quality, support native wildlife, enhance the state’s economy, and provide outdoor recreation opportunities that benefit our health and well-being. Virginia’s Great Outdoors Act (House Bill 1297) ensures these resources remain protected and accessible for future generations. Join PEC and the Our Virginia Outdoors Coalition in asking state lawmakers to support Virginia’s Great Outdoors Act and budget amendments that fund critical conservation, preservation, and outdoor recreation programs. 2024 marks 10 years since local voters confirmed their ongoing support for Midpen by passing Measure AA, a $300 million bond measure specific to Midpen that enabled work to begin on priority preservation, restoration, public access and agricultural projects in our community-supported Vision Plan. Throughout the year, we’ll be sharing the progress and projects that Measure AA has allowed Midpen to accomplish on your behalf during the last decade. Together, these projects help make our region a healthier, more climate change-resilient place for plants, animals and people. We’re kicking off this effort with a story about the purchase, made possible by Measure AA, of nearly 100 acres of redwood forest. Preserving this property as public open space has big benefits for coastal creeks and future trail connections, and narrows the gap to help physically join Midpen’s La Honda Creek and El Corte de Madera Creek open space preserves.
