What does Human Rights mean to you? Earlier this month at our annual summer investors conference on the Cape, we heard from investors, business leaders, and our partners about their views on human rights. This question is especially crucial this year as the geopolitical environment presents numerous challenges. International institutions face criticism amid wars, humanitarian crises, and genocides. Additionally, over 50 countries, home to half the planet’s population, are holding national elections that will significantly impact human rights, economies, and international relations. But what does this mean for investors and the business community? I was inspired to hear many of our attendees discuss how they address human rights within their portfolios, products, and practices to build a more just, inclusive, and equitable economy and society for the future. From navigating AI risks and ensuring the ethical development of technology to innovating strategies and increasing investments to tackle climate change, we focused on key challenges and opportunities arising today. We also highlighted the importance of centering ESG as a framework to mitigate risk and prioritize people, planet, and society. My team and I left our attendees with much to think about and actions they can take to create a better and more sustainable world for us all. Our team had a blast last week painting the town “Waterhouse pink” at the 2024 J.P. Morgan Conference. One key question we sought to answer - is 2024 the year when biotech makes a comeback? We are excited to report cautiously with a “perhaps!” Across our discussions, we heard overall positive sentiment among conference attendees about the year ahead. We are also seeing the green shoots of new growth, powered by financings, M&A and pent-up demand for IPOs. Yet macroeconomic headwinds are ever present - from the upcoming election to the FTC to the IRA. Our advice to life science companies? Nurturing your brand reputation should be an active part of your 2024 strategy and goals. Conveying a strong, differentiated value proposition to key stakeholders - whether investors, partners, talent or others - remains a critical success factor for cutting through the noise and emphasizing your market relevancy. Earlier today, Insight Partners Managing Director Liad Agmon spoke at Fusion VC's and Pearl Cohen’s 6th annual Trends & Forecasts conference to discuss current investment trends in the local Israeli tech and VC landscape. On a panel with leading investors from Claltech, Blackstone Israel, Vintage Investment Partners and NFX, Liad stressed the durability of Israeli high-tech: “One thing that is very Israeli is its resilience… We’ve emphasized to our portfolio companies that the most important thing they can do is ensure a working product and good service for customers, that’s all.” This sentiment is echoed on a global level in Insight’s 2024 investor predictions, including by Managing Director Praveen Akkiraju: “The only thing that matters at this point is whether your product is delivering value for customers, and it is indispensable. Your customer metrics are fundamental to a lot of key things like your growth, churn, and competitiveness. Keep it very simple.
