Since the Inflation Reduction Act, the U.S. clean energy manufacturing sector has seen unprecedented growth, with nearly 100 new facilities announced. This surge is making clean energy a central part of our economy. 🔋 However, we still rely on imports, especially for solar panels, to meet the increasing demand. The Act has revitalized the wind energy sector by stabilizing tax credits, leading to the expansion of wind manufacturing facilities across the country. 📍 The Southeast, particularly Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee, has emerged as a key hub, earning the nickname "Battery Belt." Private firms have invested over $70 billion, spurred by tax incentives. 👷♂️ But with this growth comes the challenge of workforce training. Programs like Georgia's Quick Start are stepping up to ensure we have the skilled workers needed to sustain this momentum. https://lnkd.in/ggv76qDd President Biden Created Clean Energy Jobs: Boosting Biden Day 77 Bidenomics in Action: Clean Energy Jobs and Investments Taking Hold Across America    Between January 2021 and March 2023, the economy added 21,000 jobs in power generation and supply, reaching its highest level in more than a decade following a prolonged decline in employment in the industry. Notably, more than half of these job gains occurred between August 2022 (when the Inflation Reduction Act and the CHIPS and Science Act were signed into law) and March 2023.    These job gains were driven by increased employment in electricity transmission and distribution and increased clean electric power generation. Between January 2021 and March 2023, the economy added 11,000 jobs in electric power transmission and distribution, 8,000 jobs in solar power generation, 2,000 jobs in wind power, and 1,000 jobs in hydroelectric power. A new analysis commissioned by the BlueGreen Alliance from the Political Economy Research Institute (PERI) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst finds that the more than 100 climate, energy, and environmental investments in the Inflation Reduction Act will create more than 9 million good jobs over the next decade—an average of nearly 1 million jobs each year.

A coal power plant that once employed as many as 300 people closed near this small town about an hour outside of Las Vegas in 2017. Nevada’s public utility has since transformed the site into a home for batteries that store energy captured by nearby solar panels. The $257 million project received roughly $100 million in federal tax credits because of President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, including a $25 million bonus for locating the project near a closed coal plant.  But the investment by NV Energy, a subsidiary of Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Energy, is set to fall short of the administration’s vision for job creation and local economic development. Construction of the site and installation of the batteries required roughly 200 workers over a year. Maintaining and operating the batteries will require about five. Moreover, those jobs likely would have been created even without the added tax break. NV Energy had planned to make the investment before the passage of the IRA, which gives companies an extra 10% of the cost of solar and wind projects located in “energy communities.”  

Global economic conditions have created a mixed landscape for cable demand, with construction and #manufacturing sectors facing significant challenges due to high interest rates and inflation. The IRA has injected $240 billion into clean energy. The US still needs more. An analysis of the bill's impact shows that for every $1 the government invested, the private sector spent nearly $5.50. 🤯 In the 18 months since the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act, 📊 analysts have conducted an analysis on the nation's investment in clean energy. Their findings indicate that for every dollar the government has invested in advancing the transition to clean energy, 💰 the private sector has contributed $5.47. This has resulted in nearly a quarter-trillion dollars flowing into the clean economy in just one year. The analysis, conducted by Rhodium Group and Massachusetts Institute of Technology collaborators, shows an increase in investments across various segments since President Joe Biden signed the legislation. From October 2022 to September 2023, $220 billion was invested in areas such as battery factories, solar farms, and emerging technologies like hydrogen, with $34 billion coming from federal spending, primarily in the form of tax credits. These findings underscore the impact of government commitment to specific actions, highlighting the substantial increase in financial support for the transition to a clean economy. We pulled a line of statistics from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s 2023 Employment Report to create this breakdown of #SolarJobs. With over half of the nation's #solar workforce in construction, the US is truly in an era of building #SustainableEnergySolutions.

Another busy week, and we are only getting busier. Some of the market trends of 2024 so far: With the depletion of traditional fossil fuels, companies are making the transistion into renewable energy, the big engineering consultancies are channelling their resources into new technologies, solar power, wind power and hydrogen development. Manufacturers are getting investments to make sure their facilities are sustainable, stricter environmental regulations are being brought forward and it is good to see that companies within the UK are making a move in the right direction. There have been a lot of redundancies! This is for varying reasons but sitting on the edge of a recession isn't helping. People are looking to switch industries to the companies that are getting investment, again these are companies that have a focus on environmental science, sustainable technologies and renewable energies. There are lots of new candidates on the market this side of the new year, it is always interesting to see who comes away from Christmas ready to take the leap into a new career opportunity and who is looking to get their head down and carry on with the graft!
