Business Development Terms 101. 1. Win Rate #WinRate represents the percentage of secured funding compared to the total number of opportunities pursued. I’ve seen many posts discussing how a high win rate is often attributed to strong proposal writing and donor engagement. While these are crucial elements, I believe there are deeper, less controllable factors at play. 💡 **The most important factor in determining win rate?** In my view, it’s the **pre-existing relationship** and **reputation** an organization has with the donor. This often tips the scales in your favor, allowing other factors to be considered more seriously. 📑 As for proposal quality—no matter how skilled a business development professional may be—the strength of your proposal is tied to the **technical expertise of your team**, which ultimately reflects the overall strength of your organization. In short, while technique matters, success in securing funding is also about relationships and organizational credibility. Let’s build that foundation! 🚀 #BusinessDevelopment #Fundraising #GrantWriting #RelationshipBuilding #Teamwork #ProposalWriting

'Considering Subcontracting as a Grant Professional? You Better be Prepared!’. This session is one of at least 30 presentations we currently offer both in-person and virtually. What began as a Grant Professionals Association published news article in 2017, has since transformed into a stimulating and honest conversation about the early considerations and red flags for grant professionals when working with another firm's client. In fact, one way I grew my business was through subcontracting. It’s been an opportunity for me to expand my reach, revenue base, and professional network, but subcontracting has not been without its challenges. As you progress in your career as a grant professional and consider, or sustain work as a subcontractor, I encourage you to think about your interest in client preparedness and the principles that guide you. After all, when working as a subcontractor with another firm’s client, we cannot care more about their client than they do. https://lnkd.in/eiMi8BVu

Continuing to #worksmarternotharder in 2024: Here are two more ways last year’s work on a major grant application, like IMLS, can help your organization get ahead on fundraising this year…
#WorkSmarterNotHarder this year by leveraging the work you put into one major grant proposal and applying it to others. Here are two ways to do that: “One of the first things you’ll do for a big application is to coordinate gathering letters of support because the process requires some back-and-forth with community members outside the organization,” says Sara Wenger, GPC, grant writer and R&L development consultant. Now that you have them, organize and archive the letters so they’re readily available for reuse—either as-is or via pulled-out quotes. This type of content demonstrates to other funders that you already have a committed base of support for your project. “IMLS grants require you to identify intended results and craft an evaluation plan,” Wenger says. “Whether your project will be evaluated by an outside professional or by in-house staff, sharing the plan that’s been developed to gather concrete data is a great selling tool for other funders. You have a solid process in place to show funders how they’ll know your program is meeting its goals and worthy of their investment.” Get in touch and let’s talk about how to put your existing applications to work for new fundraising opportunities.
