These days, companies are expecting 8-10+ years of experience, degrees etc even for basic, entry level jobs. What about those individuals that have just finished up their Matric and can't afford to further their studies, or how should they have any experience while being in school as we are not being taught about the corporate world and life in general? What about giving those individuals an opportunity to learn and grow within the corporate world to perhaps give them a headstart to be able to pay for their studies? I do understand that certain jobs have high requirements, but this is why unemployment in South Africa is ranked at a high percentage, too much is being expected from such a young age. Some people don't have their future planned or figured out yet, nor will most young people even know what career path they truly want or desire until they are given a chance in the corporate world or any job. Just a personal opinion, with no disrespect to any company, but we need to start understanding the times we are living in and how difficult it is for everyone to get by, pay their bills, afford food, petrol, baby products, medical aid, life policies, insurance, school fees etc. Everything keeps going up, except salaries and opportunities... Our economy has made it so difficult for us to try and keep our heads above water. I feel that some companies need to understand that there will always be struggles, but giving people a chance to learn and grow could also help, not just the individuals growth, but maybe even a company's growth as well. You could be employing somebody with no degree to their name, yet he/she will put in 110% of that effort to go above and beyond for a company and themselves, maybe to open new doors of opportunities or to get that promotion that can help to afford their studies as they are now earning an income. There are many individuals out there, even aged 40/50+ that can only afford to pay their studies now. But how can we expect to get employment or even a simple promotion when they consider you "too old" for a new job opportunity, just because they weren't given any form of opportunity when they were younger to try further their studies. These days it also costs a lot to have a paper behind your name. We cannot sit back and expect any Degrees, etc just to get an entry level job to pay our bills. Most of us are not fortunate enough to afford studying further, hence the requirement for jobs is so scarce in our country. Please, take this into consideration. Most of us were in the same shoes of those who are seeking employment with no experience. It's all about giving that person an opportunity to get where they need to be so that they can support their families. We need to stand together and help one another, life is so tough but we can make it better by being better people! #helponeanother #promotejobopportunities #createnewopportunities #teachingandlearning #growthopportunities
We hired someone with ZERO experience. We thought he would be a great fit with our culture so we took a chance. He has since been promoted twice. Sometimes people just need a chance. Agree?
