We've just got back from nearly three weeks in the States, specifically Washington DC and New York for United Nations General Assembly. Attending spaces like these is important, if for no other reason than that they create opportunities for actors to come together and connect in person. The costs are prohibitive for many, ‘visa repression’ is restrictive, and it can be hard to justify the use of human resources. Despite this, it is important that we are present, we are vocal, and we do participate as much as possible to ensure a broad spectrum of voices are heard, and the faces of those most affected are seen and humanised. Here are some key takeaways from our mission: https://lnkd.in/eDe7fJQC

Tomorrow’s world poses multiple threats to Europe’s most fundamental values. In the cultural & creative fields, as much as in politics, value wars and battles for sense-making are already being fiercely fought. 🔁It's time for the EU to shift from cultural resilience to cultural resistance and to creatively support freedom-fighting movements worldwide on behalf of ‘Resistant Liberalism’. 📕 Read Dr Damien Helly's contribution in the fourth issue of our Future Europe Journal on culture: bit.ly/44QR32a

#commonwealth #unitedstates #usa "America should get over the Boston tea party and subsequent 1776 thing, and just JOIN THE COMMONWEALTH. What we need more than ever is an affirmation of the values and culture that unite the anglo countries - and yes that already includes the Five Eyes nations - and a model of trans-civilizational co-operation and knowledge sharing, which will do more to spur economic development for countries lagging behind." https://lnkd.in/g-bvxD87

In this policy brief for The Charter Project Africa, I join Martin Ronceray in exploring what accreditation reform could mean for civil society engagement with the African Union (AU). We ultimately argue for a reform that: (1) emphasises effective access for civil society in its diverse forms; (2) accentuates the innovative forms of civic engagement adopted by the various AU organs within their respective mandates; and (3) translates into transparency and public ownership of the decisions and policies that emanate from AU processes.

I raise my hands to MP Gord Johns, NDP Courtenay-Alberni, B.C., for speaking to the House of Commons about the lack of investment in language revitalization in the 2024 federal budget. Gord Johns reads a quote from FPCC's Board Chair, Carla Lewis, who highlights the dedication and hard work of communities fighting for our language rights to keep our languages alive. Now, more than ever, it is urgent to prioritize investments in long-term sustainable funding for First Nation languages and heritage. https://lnkd.in/gVw-fTtq

The members of the European Union belong to the same civilization, tied by descent, blood, values, and culture. From this perspective, the notion of identities shifting over time within the EU context may not be entirely accurate. This is a valid point, as the shared cultural heritage and values among European nations can serve as a unifying force that transcends historical rivalries.
