Congratulations to the great team at J.P. Morgan for hosting an exceptional healthcare conference last week. It was a fantastic opportunity to network and learn from so many #healthcareinnovators and explore ways to collaboratively promote greater #healthequity and access. We also appreciated the opportunity to share some of the meaningful outcomes Somatus is driving in the #valuebasedcare space for patients living with #chronickidneydisease and associated chronic conditions, including: • 31% reduction in hospitalizations for patients participating in the Somatus program • 17% improvement in cost of care for patients participating in the Somatus program • 4.1x higher adoption of disease-delaying medication in African American program participants All of these improvements are instrumental in helping us to deliver More Lives, Better Lived! 2024 brings with it so many opportunities to help patients experience better health and Somatus is honored to be one of many great organizations leading the way. #SomatusStrong #ChronicCareManagement

I so often hear (conversations/media/patients) that it's the thought of having blood taken that induces anxiety/fear/trepidation of the pain (real or imagined) from the needle/lance (including seeing it)! There are some great new devices now available to improve blood sampling especially from the capillaries that hides the needle. However the ultimate aim should be to remove the need for invasive blood sampling and move to less invasive approaches. I think of saliva for direct testing of drugs (THC/cocaine) and glucose monitors utilising IR to indirectly test the blood (accept this doesn't completely remove the need for blood testing) as a couple of examples. Boards often ask me: 'Can we afford high-quality care?' My answer: 'Can you afford suboptimal care - it's costing you a fortune!' Quality and efficiency have wrestled with each other for as long as I can remember. In healthcare we've grappled with this through various phases of casemix funding, cost of complications and value-based care. It's a work in progress. But we haven't really scratched the surface in aged care and other human services. MEET THE PCSIG BOARD - Jenny Royle (Strategic Lead at MediPaCe and Director at Rekaryo Health) In the latest of our ongoing "Meet the PCSIG Board" series, we hear from Jenny Royle, Strategic Lead at MediPaCe and Director at Rekaryo Health Ltd, and a PCSIG Board Member since March 2023. What excites you about PCSIG? - That we are a global community voluntarily uniting around doing the right thing, trying to push the boundaries of healthcare beyond the clinic walls and into patient’s hands. We’re trying to increase access to diagnosis, treatment, and health monitoring for everyone, especially the most vulnerable and those who currently are underserved.   I’m excited because patient-centric sampling brings the potential to fundamentally change the dynamic of healthcare so that health infrastructure is saved for when it’s needed and there is more capacity for more disease prevention, more timely care, and for ensuring the staff working in healthcare don’t break under the strain of doing so.   I’m excited by the fact that we’re not focussing on the boundaries but on the end goal.   I’m excited because we’re willing to stretch beyond geographical and cultural boundaries, listen, and work together to help healthcare evolve and work for our children’s future.   What do you bring to the PCSIG Board? - Oh gosh, that’s better for others to answer. I aim to bring my drive, enthusiasm, and passion for equitable access and integration of patient voices into the new approaches created. I (and MediPaCe colleagues with me) have years of experience of working with patients/carers and supporting them to be heard by life science companies to help create medicines, devices, and clinical pathways that work clinically and for those experiencing them.   Many people in PCSIG work in the highly regulated area of Pharma and we bring the expertise to ensure patient engagement in PCSIG is streamlined and effective, whilst also recognising the requirements of the environments our members are in.   What do you want to hear from the PCSIG membership? Your thoughts – what you think the ultimate aim should be? Your ideas – what do you think needs to happen to get there? Your expertise – please help. It’s going to take each of us lifting a little to collectively carry the burden of change. We can do it, but we can do it better together.

For all the health people in my network, please fill in this survey. Explain to NHS England that this is a terrible idea that will create further barriers to innovation when we need it most. The UK can be a powerhouse in medtech innovation but not like this. Empower the frontline to seek innovations that solve the real world problems they face. Award contracts for real implementations not pilots and trials or schemes. World Evidence-Based Healthcare Day is held on 20 October and aims to raise awareness of the need for better evidence to inform healthcare policy, practice and decision-making to improve health outcomes globally. The World EBHC Day 2024 Campaign is ‘Health and Beyond: Evidence to Action. The campaign seeks to galvanise the global evidence community in addressing the interconnected crises facing humanity. In the face of escalating social, economic, and ecological challenges, the campaign underscores the need for greater intersectoral action and collaboration to build resilient evidence support systems. We invite organisations and individuals to submit a blog that shares their experiences, lesson learned and/or recommendations for interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation to co-create solutions to meet the challenges of a polycrisis.
