When creating educational programming for black and brown children it is important to ensure their voices are being centered in the curriculum. Here is a list of helpful questions to ask yourself in the beginning stages to ensure children are being seen, heard, and valued: -Who are we representing? -Who are we leaving out? -How can we create inclusive language and activities? -Whose voices are we elevating? -What experiences are we normalizing and/or centering? -Are we reinforcing stereotypes? -Are we promoting critical thinking and the exploration of diverse experiences and perspectives? -Who are our resources accessible to? How can we expand their accessibility? #bcdiohio #ece #educationalresources Source: https://lnkd.in/eQ_pwGUF

National research shows that reading for at least 15 minutes per day can significantly boost students’ literacy growth — and family support is vital to ensuring students maintain a consistent daily reading habit. Springboard Collaborative, a nonprofit founded and led by teachers, is strengthening students’ reading support systems by connecting parents and teachers and equipping families with the tools and resources to coach reading at home. After achieving double the expected reading growth with its after-school programming, Springboard is working to scale its approach nationwide. https://msdf.co/3wP0F0h

When was the last time you paused and reflected on why you became a teacher? In the realm of after-school programming, it's crucial that focus extends beyond the constraints of cost. Concorde Education's mission is to unlock the full potential of every student and #afterschoolprograms should be more than just a line item on a spreadsheet - they are gateways to new skills, passions, and opportunities for our children. Here are some benefits of #afterschoolprogramming: Holistic Development: These programs offer a unique platform for students to explore interests outside the traditional curriculum, fostering well-rounded development. Enhanced Academic Success: Quality after-school activities have been linked to improved academic performance, showing that investment in these programs is an investment in our students' academic futures. Inclusivity and Equity: High-quality programs are a step towards leveling the playing field, ensuring all students have access to enriching experiences, regardless of their background. In 2024, let's pledge to view after-school programming not just as an expense, but as an invaluable investment in our children's futures. #K12Education #AfterSchoolPrograms #StudentDevelopment #EducationalLeadership #InvestInOurFuture"

When I first started as an elementary assistant principal, I just went along with the program. I did as I was told and supervised summer school, that was assigned to me for a half day. This was before I really understood how summer school could help students hold on to what they'd learned during the school year. School leaders become disappointed when we host summer school but don’t see the impact we wanted. Now, we are not saying, don’t host summer school. You should. But just providing summer school isn’t enough. That summer school session needs to be well thought out, and you should start planning for it in the fall, not May. During our IG Live, Kim and I are going to share why only hosting summer school won’t prevent the summer slide and what needs to be included in summer programming. We’ll talk about how additional components like community support, enrichment activities, and getting consistent attendance, play a huge part in making a bigger impact. We will discuss the most important elements that should be part of every summer program. Have you ever found yourself not feeling confident that your summer school session is effectively addressing the summer slide? Then, you don’t want to miss our LIVE on LinkedIn and Instagram on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 6:30 CST. #Edreform #Edchat #Education #LiteracyMatters #Leadership #ElementaryPrincipals

Is the public school system in America a launchpad to success, or a participation trophy factory? We all have opinions, but where’s the truth? There may not be a one-size-fits-all answer. Some schools are rocking it, while others...well, let’s just say they could use a pep talk (and maybe a new roof). Funding woes, stressed teachers, and societal shifts all play a part. But some schools are also launching future scientists and churning out coding whizzes… So, are they failing or fighting an uphill battle? What are your thoughts on the state of public education?🤔 #FixOurSchools #TheFutureIsOurKids #LetsGetReal #EducationRevolution #WheresTheFunding #BeyondTheTestScores #MoreThanAMathlete #educationequity #educationequality #betterschools #schoolchoice

If I were to tell my former self anything about improving education, I would say 3 things: "big things start small, it takes a village, and play is the way." Yesterday, I got to be part of the unveiling of the best outdoor playscape I've ever seen at LA CRECHE EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER, I NC. Big things start small - The HighScope Perry Preschool Project is a 40-year longitudinal study that showed the impact high-quality early education and more specifically, non-cognitive or character skills (perseverance, problem-solving, grit) can have on educational outcomes. Fun fact: It's why the formal name of SayKid is EduCharacter! It takes a village - Early education is a tough sport... demanding work, low pay, and challenging economic model. The play space wouldn't have been possible without the amazing support from PNC and leadership from Deb Rohloff and Kelly McQueen, Arielle Handevidt and Sondra Samuels at Northside Achievement Zone (NAZ), Jill Hardy Heath Heart of America, and so many others. Play is the way - At a time when kids spend so much time in front of screens, it's refreshing to see people taking play seriously. The research is clear that kids learn by moving around, interacting, and playing games. If you look closely, you'll see large trees for kids to jump on... kids learn by taking risks too! The weather is warm and the future is bright in MN! 😎👏😎👏😎
