There are certain things you DON'T need to hire an attorney for when starting a business, like....
♦️ Registering your company
♦️ Filing for a Trademark
♦️ Renewing your Trademark
Filing for a Trademark is easy.
> First you need to educate yourself what a Trademark is and why you ought to file one.
> Go through uspto.gov website and then create an account.
They now do require identification of identity unlike before in all federal websites.
> If you have any questions. Contact USPTO Contact Center, preferably through email.
They're very helpful and often respond within 2 weeks
> It only costs $250 or $350 per class depending on which TEAS you use.
> The officer assigned to your case will work with you until the process of filing is completed, and make any changes if needed to.
When I filed, I made an error by using my name as the owner instead of the company name and that was corrected.
> If you're still using the mark. You file for renewal after the 5th & 6th year of the first registration date.
TAKE CAUTION ⛔
> After filing, you'll start receiving mails/emails from certain law firms. Who'll start requesting for a certain fee to assist in filing/renewing.
DO NOT RESPOND to them. They're not associated with USPTO. They collect info from uspto database.
The only part I like about them, is that they'll remind you when your Trademark is about to expire & needs to be renewed.
....ALWAYS CONTACT Trademark Assistant for GUIDANCE & they'll help you.
