We know that women athletes make considerably less than men but it's so much so, that Arsenal F.C and Lioness star Leah Williamson shared that retirement isn’t possible with her current earnings. Keep in mind, a professional athlete’s retirement looks a bit different than those in other careers, and a player in say, The Premier League could retire on a whim if he wanted to given that the average salary for a Premier League player is around £3.6 million—or $4.7 million. Meanwhile, the average WSL salary is just £47,000 and: ➡️ 36% of players take on further education for something to fall back on ➡️ 20% of players have a second full-time job ➡️ 23% reported they took unpaid leave to pursue their WSL career The playing field is far from equal, even when viewership continues to rise across women’s sports. Let’s keep working toward increased spectators, sponsorships, and support.

The reason why women athletes make less than men athletes is because they sell less tickets. If you do the math ticket per ticket sales they statistically make more than a male athlete would sell the same amount of tickets. Maybe if they want to sell more tickets they should stop complaining about how much they make and start promoting their sport.

I’d like to see the Women’s league do it different to the men’a league. If you look at the men’s (premier league) for instance, they are too enamoured by this idea of a single team dominating for prolonged periods so much so the so called “Big 6” seem to be creating a chasm that is going to be detrimental to the game and league in long run. The Women’s league can help each other become and stay competitive and increase watchability of the game season long and not just at specific points of the competition. And to make the women’s league become a true spectator sport, make it accessible to the younger kids (boys and girls) by enticing them and their parents to the games. I know I got hooked on football as a child and that was because English Div 1 games (pre PL) was made accessible (more than the other leagues). The Women’s game needs to get the in-stadium experience more enticing and progressively improve the out of stadium experience. Hoping that in not far future, the Women’s Football following will be popular in its own standing …

This highlights an important issue in sports. While viewership for women's sports is on the rise, the disparity in earnings remains significant. It's crucial to support women athletes like Leah Williamsonn and work towards leveling the playing field. Increased spectators, sponsorships, and support are essential steps toward achieving equality. Let's keep pushing for change and ensuring that all athletes can have a secure future. 💪⚽️ #WomenInSport #OneMoreFan

It's disheartening to see the significant disparity in earnings between male and female athletes. The challenges faced by women in sports highlight the urgent need for systemic change and equal opportunities.

That’s total bullshit. I was appalled when I heard the WNBA starting salary for the first three years is in the $76-78k range.

In all sectors there is a large wage gap between men and women.
