My Concussion Legacy Foundation (CLF) fundraiser is building momentum! Thanks to my friends and family who have donated so far. But we still have some time left! My family is supporting CLF for a few of reasons: First, we want youth sports to be safe for our kids. That’s something I would hope we all can get behind. Second, there are way too many ex-athletes of all ages who are suffering from symptoms of CTE. The free CLF HelpLine provides personalized support to those struggling with the outcomes of brain injury including concussions, post-concussion syndrome, and suspected CTE. Offering medical and educational resources, 1:1 peer support, and peer support groups, this interactive community provides patients and caregivers an inclusive, safe setting to recover together.  So far, 6,000 families have benefitted from the CLF HelpLine, and with your help, we can grow this unique, vital, and FREE resource that changes lives. Finally, as we approach Memorial Day, we do this to support our veterans. We all know about some of the struggles that our veterans face after serving our country. What is new is the number of veterans that are discovered to have signs of CTE. Our military veterans and their families deserve to get resources they need to deal with the effects of brain trauma. CLF’s Project Enlist is designed to get those families the answers and the help they need. Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) is a tear in an artery’s inner lining, creating a blockage. SCAD is an under-recognized cause of acute coronary syndrome, heart attack and sudden cardiac arrest.

One of my passions is finding ways to make a difference for people who are on waiting lists for essential services. In certain places, like Kansas, more than 5,100 people with IDD are waiting up to nearly ten years to access waiver services. I am a believer that managed care organizations can play a crucial role in supporting people on the waiting list to fully participate, contribute, thrive, and live in their communities of choice. It's not the only solution, but it's an important part of a larger approach that includes advocacy and policy changes. I am fortunate to work for an organization, CareSource, that sees the importance it can play in offering better supports to those waiting for services. We recognize that we can't do this critical work alone, but instead we must collaborate with organizations, advocacy groups, and stakeholders embedded in these communities. For example, CareSource recently announced a $25,000 donation to the Kansas ABLE Savings Program. This donation bolsters the Kansas State Treasurer’s Office’s efforts to improve awareness of ABLE's resources for people on the waiting list. ABLE accounts offer a way for people to save beyond the $2,000 asset limit without risking their Medicaid or SSI eligibility. As advocacy efforts continue to reduce or eliminate waiting lists, ABLE accounts offer a unique solution for people while waiting for services while not penalizing them for saving money. There are only so many flat-screened TVs a person can purchase to spend down their money. So, in the end, the driving force is a commitment to making a positive impact on people's lives. Being on a waiting list for services does not minimize the need for services. We must hear their voices, understand their needs, and take action to bring about real change.

March for Babies brings together families, volunteers, corporate partners, and communities, helping raise $26M to go back into our mission.

The Need for TACT is REAL Earlier this morning, TACT's leadership team was putting together information about the impact of our program. Below is a graph of state data of clients receiving employment services through Medicaid, which we were also looking at (not TACT data). Please take a look at the number of individuals on the waiver compared to the number receiving employment services. There is a HUGE difference. The need for TACT - Teaching the Autism Community Trades is real. Our community deserves equality of opportunity to employment and careers of their choice. TACT is providing real outcomes, and looking at these numbers, the need is increasing. It's World Autism Month. Please take a moment to donate to TACT and help continue to lead.
