When a rare uterine rupture turned life-threatening for Stephanie Dupont and her son, Levi, care teams from three M Health Fairview hospitals raced to save their lives. After hours of surgery and a day of recovery, Stephanie was reunited with her son in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Now, both mom and baby are getting stronger every day, while the whole family is grateful for the care they’ve received. "I cannot give the doctors and nurses … enough credit,” said Jake, Stephanie’s husband. “They were there when we needed them the most. The level of care, the level of knowledge, compassion, and empathy along the way was something I’ve never experienced before.” Read their full story. ➡ https://bit.ly/3VQZxlU

What happens when patients lack access primary care? A new study looking at the impacts of living in primary care shortage areas showed higher rates of emergency surgery, serious complications, and hospital readmissions. Those in areas with the most severe shortages were also more likely to have serious complications. But it doesn't have to be this way. Pennsylvania can take action to prevent higher rates of emergency surgery and complications by increasing patient access to primary care. Full practice authority for nurse practitioners through SB25 and HB1825 would allow NPs to open clinics and provide care to patients living in primary care shortage areas, which would improve patient health across Pennsylvania and in its underserved communities. Tell PA legislators that Pennsylvanians deserve access to safe, quality primary care services - join PCNP and NPs from across Pennsylvania in Harrisburg on April 30 to advocate for full practice authority! How wanting a full clinic can impede the growth of your private practice. I know a surgeon who was so passionate about giving the best care to his patients, that he: 📅 Let NHS follow-ups book into his private slots 👨⚕️ Saw NHS follow-ups more often than required As you can imagine, he is incredibly popular among his NHS patients. But he also came to me asking: ❓ Why aren’t I seeing more private patients? The simple answer is, he was cannibalising his private slots with NHS patients. You may look at this and think “That’s obvious! I’d never do that!” but it’s an easy trap to fall into. If you have patients that need to see you, and you have empty slots… it’s very easy to be tempted to fill them. You might look at an empty diary in 2 weeks’ time and think “What’s the harm in filling it? At least I’ll have a busy clinic!” But by taking those private slots away you’re making them unavailable to private patients. And private patients often want to be seen anywhere from 48 hours’ time. So by not keeping your private slots open at short notice, they’re unlikely to be filled with private patients at all. I guess the moral of my story is: Hold your nerve! 😬 Don’t let the desire for a full clinic accidentally prevent private patients from being able to book to see you. What Mayo Clinic Got Right 132 Years Ago: #Doctors on Salary, #Patient at Center. The History of the Mayo Clinic is Very Relevant to Employee #HealthPlans Today. The Founder of the Mayo Clinic, Dr. W. W. Mayo, Believed that #FeeforService Would #Bias the Judgement of Doctors. Therefore, from the Very Beginning, the Mayo Clinic Always Had Its Doctors on #SALARY. The Mayo Clinic Also Has Its #Specialists Coordinate Their Care #AROUND the Patient, Rather Than Having the Patient 'Ping-Pong' from One Specialist to the Next. The Mayo Clinic Believes in the #EarlyAdoption of Scientifically Proven New Techniques and Innovations. Example: The Mayo Clinic Was One of the First Hospitals in America to Adopt Sterile Technique for #Surgery and Dramatically Lowered Operative Infections. The Point: While #Employers Cannot Send Every Health Plan Member to the Mayo Clinic, the Local #Academic Medical Center--that 1) Has Its Doctors on Salary, 2) Coordinates Care with the Patient at the Center and 3) Adopts Scientifically Proven Processes--May Be the Next Best Alternative for Patient Care Over a Local Community Hospital. 🎉 A Triumph of Compassion and Innovation in Surgery! 🎉 Nice to share a good news story…. When a severely burned heavily pregnant patient crossed the path of Dr Nikki Allorto and her team at Greys Hospital in Pietermaritzburg, every effort was made to achieve what at this stage is a remarkable outcome. This patient, a heavily pregnant woman with more than 60% TBSA burns, required immediate intervention. Despite the severity of her condition, an emergency caesarean section was performed, and a healthy baby boy was delivered. However, the mother's condition remained critical. While standard protocols suggested palliative care, Dr Allorto pushed to find a solution that would give the mother a fighting chance at life – this in the hope that her baby boy would enter life with a mother to care for him. Opting to use MEEK Micrografting Technique for the first time at Greys hospital, Dr Nikki contacted our meek team, who arranged for the equipment and team to be present during the surgery. The MEEK Micrografting Technique, an advanced wound care procedure known for its effectiveness in large TBSA burns. Arriving with the equipment, our Meek team supported Dr Allorto in the application of the Meek technique – and she was able to cover the vast majority of the patients burn wounds in that one surgery. To this point the patient is doing well, and although it is early days, we are hopeful for an excellent outcome. This remarkable story is a testament to the power of advanced medical solutions and the unwavering dedication of healthcare professionals. At Instrumental Healthcare, we are proud to support surgeons, nurses, and hospitals in delivering the highest standard of care. Together, we are not just treating wounds; we are transforming lives and giving hope to our communities. --- Feel free to reach out to learn more about how our products and expertise can support your hospital's mission to deliver exceptional patient care. Together, we can make a difference. 🌟 https://lnkd.in/dSzswRmR #HealthcareHeroes #AdvancedWoundCare #SurgicalExcellence #MEEKTechnique #PatientCare #HealthcareInnovation #InstrumentalHealthcare #SavingLives #MedicalSuccessStories

📈 The latest data from #NHS England indicates that the overall waiting list increased by around 30,000 to 7.6 million during May, with a slightly larger proportion of individual patients than April with 6.4 million. Of that number, 308,000 were waiting more than 52 weeks; 56,000 were waiting more than 65 weeks; 5,000 were waiting more than 78 weeks; and 259 were waiting more than 104 weeks. Only 59% of patients waited fewer than 18 weeks — significantly short of the 92% standard.
