Our health system – and Minnesota – are at our best when we are welcoming, inclusive, diverse, and caring. That’s why it was such a privilege for us to take part in Twin Cities Pride this weekend to celebrate Minnesota’s vibrant, courageous, and resilient LGBTQIA2S+ community – just like it is an honor and privilege to provide care 365 days a year for all Minnesotans, no matter who they are or who they love. Thank you to the hundreds of employees and representatives from across our health system who turned up to volunteer, celebrate, march, and show their support during #TCPride this weekend! We were proud to be the presenting sponsor of Living Well Park this year, and to take part in such a meaningful and moving event. 🌈 #Pride | #HealthEquity | #MHFVPride

Nataki Garrett reflects: The arts aren't just entertainment; they're a social prescription for health, empathy, and healing. These invaluable benefits must be accessible to all, investing in both the vision and the artists who contribute to our collective well-being. Despite setbacks, the arts economy hit an all-time high in 2021, proving their enduring impact. Therefore, we have to empower our collaborations with local governments, healthcare organizations, and arts entities to scale and customize projects that enhance community health. The arts and healthcare should be a basic human right—interdisciplinary models can be a way to honor that vision. #Arts #Culture #Theater #Community #Leadership #Health #MentalHealth #COVID #Economic #Advocacy #Education #Youth #Entertainment #Connection #Accessibility #Equity #Artists #Policy #Government #ArtsForAll #CommunityWellBeing #Healthcare #ArtsAdvocacy #SocialPrescription #Collaboration #PolicyChange

Ageism & Ableism are so deeply ingrained in society and can be so subtly expressed that we are unaware of how they impact our thoughts and actions. That subtlety can extend into the care partnership. What do you think? How might ageism and ableism impact care partnerships and how might we counteract that? Join us for the conversation! (Community Track) This is an Eden Member gathering. Local Democracy Hubs Accelerator // Inter-Movement Community Builder // Organizational Match-Maker // Theologian // Naval Officer // Lawyer
Invitation: If you are in DC on November 29th and work in the democracy + civic health-promoting ecosystem, you are invited to a no-host happy hour at Free State Bar in DC starting at 5pm. ------- This happy hour will coincide with the "Future of Citizenship - 2023 Annual National Conference on Citizenship" and other democracy + civic health-related conferences in DC that week, so there will be many colleagues from across the country joining. This is a unique opportunity to meet, make friends, and compare notes with interesting people from across the community of democracy and civic health-promoting movements. ------- Details When: Wednesday, November 29th. Come whenever you can and stay for however long you want. Where: Free State Bar. 501B G St NW, Washington, DC 20001. About two blocks from both the Judiciary Square (Red line) and the Gallery Place-Chinatown (Red, Yellow, Green lines) metro stops. Why: Socializing together in-person (a) is fun, (b) helps us discover a sense of belonging within this community of practitioners, and (c) creates important cross-field relationships that are critical for collective impact. Transforming American democracy and civic health requires a lot of different people/orgs working together across many different lines of operation, so consider this time a valuable investment in building a movement together. Other Info: It is totally informal/casual...there will be no agenda, no dress code...bring whomever you would like (family/friends/etc.). Drinks and bar snacks are available for purchase (happy hour specials from 4-6pm). Outside food is permitted, so feel free to grab dinner and bring it in if you're hungry (there are a lot of nearby restaurants/take-out options). If you would like a calendar invite, please e-mail me at [email protected]. #democracydrinks

Last month, our Learning and Evaluation Team presented at the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) annual conference on Playspace Inequity Prioritization Index (PIPI), a new methodology for estimating playspace inequity. Read their reflections below and check out their session, available to watch now. "The National Parks and Recreation Association (NRPA) annual conference is unlike any other. In Dallas, we had the chance to connect with industry leaders from across the country, sharing our personal and professional experiences of navigating a changing park and playspace landscape. In the main exhibition hall, KABOOM! had the opportunity to share our Playspace Inequity Prioritization Index (PIPI) for the first time on a national stage. As first-time presenters at NRPA, it was hard to know what to expect, but as soon we opened for questions it was immediately clear that others have also been looking for methods to measure and address playspace inequity. "Having the opportunity to connect directly with parks systems from across the country has already helped us generate new connections and ideas for our systems change work. "We also came back with new ideas to end playspace inequity at scale for this generation of kids. We heard from San Francisco on how they are engaging with nonprofits to build community-informed spaces, and from San Antonio on how they are prioritizing health equity. "Perhaps the most important thing we learned is that through being in community with passionate parks and recreation professionals, we have the collective potential to change the future of recreation for the better." Living in Oregon, where the process of submitting my ballot is seamlessly integrated into daily life, it's challenging to envision standing in line for such a task. However, countless individuals face the struggle of finding time to cast their vote, often relying on childcare to fulfill this civic duty. Politisit addresses this need by offering financial support for childcare, empowering caregivers to actively participate in civic engagements like voting, attending PTA meetings, or other community activities. It's a truly innovative concept, and I wholeheartedly endorse it. Will you join me in supporting this initiative? https://lnkd.in/eR8zdCJq

How would you approach a community? (this story would make you laugh 😂) A particular organization recognized a community that was in need of clean water, so they decided to construct a borehole for the community without getting permission from the community leaders After a while, the organization came back to the community, to see if the community members were using the bore hole and to measure the progress of the project. They found out that the borehole was never used and the community members still go to the river to fetch water(which was very unhealthy) When the organization approached the leaders to ask why…..they replied, “did you speak to us first before doing anything or did you get our permission”. Apparently, it wasn’t like the community leaders did not appreciate their effort but the location where it was built was the problem🥲 They said the location where it was built, would not allow husbands to have fun with their wives and that is why they like to send their kids to the river to get water which is farther from the community…..so they can use that time to have fun with their wives😂 {Let’s say you want to impact or carry out an implementation in a local community} You have to face the formality of any new community you want to impact… We call this, COMMUNITY ENTRY VISIT…. This visit ensures that you meet the head of the community, its leaders (Obas, traditional and religious leaders) and other respectful individuals. In this visit, you talk about what you intend to do for their community, how you want to carry it out and the necessary support you require from them. Ensure you fully understand what they would agree with and what they wouldn’t.. Remember, it is their territory not yours What is your experience when visiting a local community for the first time? #publichealth #communityimpact #projectimplementation #120dayslinkedinspree
