We know food insecurity impacts a person’s health. We also know it is sometimes challenging to navigate nutrition resource programs. That’s where Mang Vang, M Health Fairview’s food resource navigator, comes in. Vang helps patients who get care at our East Metro clinics and are facing food insecurity find essential food resources through our partnerships with trusted, local community organizations. “There are a lot of resources available for those who face these challenges,” Vang said. “We should not feel bad if we need to turn to some of these resources.” A fresh food prescription program, a food voucher program, and East Side Table all work to provide those in need healthy, nutritious food at low-to-no cost. Vang’s role is the first-of-its-kind for our health system and is a part of our larger mission to address the social determinants of health throughout our communities. As a former food bank director, this example resonates with the synergy I once sought with our local health partners. The collaboration between #healthcare and #foodbanks stands out as a powerful force in advancing holistic well-being. Visionary leaders such as Elevance and Blue Cross Blue Shield North Carolina acknowledge that 80% of #healthoutcomes hinge on critical #socialfactors—#nutrition, #housing, and #economicsecurity. With #foodinsecurity driving $45 million in annual emergency visits, this collaboration not only strengthens #communityhealth but also proves to be a savvy #strategic business move. Moreover, it deftly navigates the challenges of implementing cost-effective food delivery solutions. 🌟 **Real-World Success:** The tangible impact unfolds when healthcare services strategically co-locate with highly utilized food pantries. This approach meets people where they are, amplifies outreach, and effectively addresses community needs. 🌍💙 Let's champion innovative solutions, bridge gaps, and collectively shape a future where quality healthcare and essential nourishment converge, laying the foundation for a thriving life. #HealthEquity #CommunityWellBeing #HolisticHealth #CollaborativeCare #FoodInsecurity #FoodAsMedicine #SocialDeterminantsOfHealth

The Health Star Ratings system is completely failing NZers. It is vital Food Ministers from Australia and NZ agree to make it mandatory at tomorrow’s Food Minister’s meeting. Diet and excess body weight is responsible for 18 per cent of premature death and disability in Aotearoa. We must have food environments that support health and help reduce serious diet-related ill-health that is pervasive in Aotearoa. We call on NZ Food Minister Andrew Hoggard to back a mandatory Health Star Rating system. https://lnkd.in/gmipgZwY

Access to adequate food is essential for maintaining good health. But, recent data from Urban Institute reveals a concerning trend: in 2023, SNAP benefits did not cover the cost of a modestly priced meal in 99% of US counties. The average cost of a meal was $3.37, which is 19% higher than the maximum SNAP benefit. This gap leaves many families struggling to afford nutritious meals. More than 3.4 million Texans rely on SNAP benefits to supplement their food budget, but with costs outpacing benefits, food insecurity remains a significant issue. The gap between SNAP benefits and meal costs is even more pronounced in urban areas compared to rural ones, highlighting a critical area of need. Addressing food security is a crucial step toward improving overall health outcomes. We need to work towards ensuring all Texans have access to the nutritious food they need to lead healthy lives.
