FPSO 'Johan Castberg' which will tap #Norway’s newest oil field is now undergoing final checks before setting sail for the Barents Sea, the latest stage of the country’s push to extract more #resources from the #Arctic. At 313 meters (1,027 feet) long, the Johan Castberg production vessel is about the same length as the world’s biggest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford. Its tanks have the capacity to hold as much as 1.1 million barrels of #oil, drawn from 30 wells. The ship will spend much of the summer at the dock and anchored in the fjord near the Stord shipyard undergoing final checks, before heading north to start production in the fourth quarter, eventually ramping up to about 220,000 barrels a day. Located above the Arctic circle and about 240 kilometers (150 miles) northwest of Europe’s biggest #LNG production facility at Hammerfest, the Johan Castberg field is estimated to hold between 450 million and 650 million barrels of #crudeoil. License holders are Equinor with 50%, 30% held by Energi ASA and Petoro ASA with the remaining 20%. #maritime #exploration #industry

The Troll A platform is a Condeep gravity-based structure offshore natural gas platform in the Troll gas field off the west coast of Norway. Built from reinforced concrete, as of 2014, it was the tallest structure that has ever been moved to another position, relative to the surface of the Earth, and is among the largest and most complex engineering projects in history. The platform was a televised sensation when it was towed into the North Sea in 1995, where it is now operated by Equinor. It is also the heaviest object moved and the object with the second highest displacement at 1.2 million tons (the object with the highest displacement is the Gullfaks C, which had a displacement approaching 1.5 million tons[3] in comparison with Troll A's 1.2 million). Troll A was towed from the afternoon 10 May 1995 until the platform was in place 17 May 1995. It was lowered to the seabed in 303 meters of water, and had penetrated 36 meters into the soil by 19 May 1995[citation needed]. "Yùum K'ak' Náab" means "Lord of the Seas" in the Mayan language. The FPSO is owned by BW Offshore and is chartered to @pemex for deployment offshore Mexico at the giant Ku-Maloob-Zaap field. The unit, formerly a 360,000 dwt ultra large crude carrier (ULCC), was the largest of its kind in the world when converted and the first non-fixed platform to operate on the country's shallow waters. Back in 2007, Pemex leased the FPSO for 15 years. Oil production has been declining and today accounts for around 40% of the platform's 200,000 bopd capacity. However, the unit still is of major importance. Its massive 2.2 million barrel storage capacity and installed systems enable the heavy oil to be blended on site with lighter crude before exporting. Offshore drilling contractor Borr Drilling ( @borrdrilling) has won new contracts worth a total of $158.6m The Oslo-and New York-listed company has secured a combined utilization of 820 days for the 2013-built Prospector 1, the 2018-built Gunnlod and another rig yet to be determined. The Prospector 1, which has been working for Neptune Energy off the Netherlands, has been fixed for 250 days in the North Sea on multiple contracts that started in March. The Gunnlod has been committed to Southeast Asia for 90 days from May this year when its contract with Rock Oil offshore Malaysia was set to expire. Now a days most of ships after dry dock a new system named is Shapoli mainly fixed at the main engine , the screen at the bridge as pilot I get a curious to know what that system is for so I read more about it A shaft power limiter (ShaPoLi), also known as a non-overridable power limitation (NOPL), is a system that limits the power output of a ship's propulsion system to a maximum level that is determined by its Energy Efficiency Existing Index (EEXI) value. Please see the picture for the system as I understand mostly the pilot when he asked for more rpm to pick up speed specially from manoeuvering speed to sea speed I noticed master now a days increasing the rpm 2 by two and he keep monitoring the. Shapoli screen so he is trying not to exceed more the 90% and above and once the load at the Shapoli screen reduced to 80% or less then he start increasing again so the fuel consumption will be reasonable and less emission , more control for the co2 emission and for reducing the consumption.
