US unfilled job openings in durable goods #manufacturing increased 97,000 over the past year, a fact largely under-reported about today's JOLTS (Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary) report. Total unfilled job positions in US manufacturing increased to an 8 month high at 603,000. Forced employment turnover was down 424,000 in May year/year, and the number of people quitting their jobs was down for the 7th consecutive month with 550,000 less jobs quit in May '24 vs. May '23. #jobs, #economy. #labormarket

The Manufacturing Industry added 8,000 jobs in May, outperforming general expectations of slowed job growth 👊 Sector Gains 📈 - Transportation Equipment Manufacturing (+4,700) - Chemical Manufacturing (+4,100) - Food Manufacturing (+3,400) Sector Drains 📉 - Miscellaneous Manufacturing (-2,900) - Furniture & Related Products Manufacturing (-2,200) The latest ISM Purchasing Manager's Index (PMI) showed overall contraction for the second consecutive month. However, the employment index significantly improved, up 2.5% from last month, providing a more optimistic outlook.
