Applications for our Graduate Programme will close today. Over the last few weeks many enthusiastic graduates have asked what makes EY Ireland a great place to pursue a career. My own reflections on this have been quite simple: 1. We have a people focused culture. Many firms claim it but we truly live this day to day in EY Ireland. Everyone is encouraged to bring their true self to work - it is a non negotiable as we are not looking for one type of person. We celebrate diversity of thought, diversity of people and relentless collaboration. It is in our DNA to support our people, both our colleagues and clients, towards better outcomes. 2. Our captains are on the field with you. All of our team from interns to Partners are sitting out on the floor together - there are no leaders hiding away in offices or ivory towers. This means you are as likely to be learning from somebody beside you with 20 years experience as somebody with 20 days experience. This helps you move up the learning curve much faster and leads to greater collaboration (see point 1) and better teaming. 3. We are the land of opportunity. Some graduate brochures I have perused can be a great source of fiction. The fact is that EY is Number 1 in the market in Ireland - both in size and growth. Don't take my word for it - see the attached table from September 2024's edition of Finance Dublin. Being number 1 is nice etc., but what does this mean in real terms? Day to day what it really means are more opportunities and faster career growth as well as the fact that you are joining a firm that is leading the way in so many areas. As a recipient of the KPMG 2023 Impact Award, I was honored to be invited to a KPMG panel discussion yesterday. The purpose of this panel was to discuss social impact with new recruits of co-op students at KPMG across Canada. Last year, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a KPMG 2023 Impact Award in recognition of my mentorship role at McGill University, as well as my contributions as a board member in various organizations, and in scientific communities. *** More and more young people consider a company’s social commitments when deciding where to work. I shared a key message: while 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭, 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥.  Question for me: how I manage to balance my professional responsibilities with my volunteer work without getting stressed? For me, 𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐚 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟.  Working alongside other generous individuals, contributing to a cause, and learning in the process, is a rewarding experience in itself. Day 2 of IEUK Keynotes & Highlights: Laura Tye from Clyde & Co kicked off a day of enriching learning experiences with a share of her journey. Her persistent resilience opened a plethora of opportunities for her in the workplace. “Only you can sell yourself”💡 Victoria Stedman informed us on the steps British Airways are taking to mitigate economic instability. Labelling geopolitical issues and fluctuating fuel costs. Sustainability was the value that resonated when hearing from Nestlé’s Daisy Thompson and Juetong Liang I learned the effectiveness of collaboration when applied real world business practices and challenges. It takes a multifunctional corporate effort. Katie Adams from Lloyds Banking Group gave insight into what a data science career entails. Highlighting the importance to set yourself out from the crowd. Lydia Cronin gave an informative talk on B2B Marketing. Skills such as adaptability are key as marketing actions can turn into sales conversations. Emma Goodall (IBM) discussed her consulting experiences, overseeing the transformation of the NHS app post lockdown. Differentiating the need to think logically when handling client needs. Emmalyn Amoako Baffoe and Andjela Djukanovic (KPMG) provided a deep dive into their audit expertise and the rich experiences you can be exposed to when working in a regional office. Emma Russell (Mazars in the UK) provided tips on dealing with professional service interviews and highlighted the utility of the STAR method. After lunch we had the opportunity to engage and network with graduates and professionals in the industry. Being exposed to such a pool of knowledge and different perspectives was very beneficial. Key Takeaways: 💡Deloitte: I learned the significance your ability to broadcast soft skills hold in determining your success. 💡Forvis Mazars in the UK: Niamh Woodhouse emphasised importance in individuality and the opportunities it brings (having found success in finance despite being a Psychology grad) “let your passions shine through”. 💡PwC UK special thanks to Anthonia Ogundare (ACA,MBA) and Duro Bine who gave an in depth breakdown on an “ACA” and “ACCA”. The day concluded with the introduction to our work sample by Fareeha Adnan. Joining a Fictional PwC Audit team, submitting a task to give us a hands insight into Audit. ✨ Alumni Networking Lunch – Career Journeys and Beyond ✨ During October I have been so lucky to lead on EY Foundation's Alumni Networking lunches, bringing together young people, EYF Supporters, and employers. Over the four events at our hubs, I have been able to see our incredible Alumni in action, networking like pros and taking every opportunity to learn from other attendees. I know a few of my colleagues and employers have already been inundated with connection requests - well done! We have also had some brilliant panel discussions, featuring Alumni, employers and supporters. A huge thank you to Kate Thomas for supporting getting our panellists together! This was a real team effort, so thank you to all our hubs for your support! Every story was different, demonstrating that there is no ‘one way’ into employment. But some of my key takeaways were… 💡 Being your authentic self: Gen Z value a workplace where you can be your authentic self and bringing your 'whole self' to work ultimately brings out the best in employees. 💡 The importance of communication and seeking support and guidance (most people are very happy to help!) 💡 Networking and investing in people: Nurture and maintain the connections you make - you never know when you'll need someone's help or advice in the future! 💡Celebrate small achievements. Remember that setbacks are normal and try to learn from opportunities that don't go to plan. 💡 And finally, Margaret Gibson OBE Gibson gave probably my best piece of advice from the events: pay into your pensions - it'll be worth it in the end! I am in a real privileged position to love the job that I do, and work with others who feel exactly the same! Working with young people as they navigate their way into their careers is exciting, inspirational and makes me reflect on our own journey. Starting at an ice cream stand in Sunny Southend at 14/15 years old, to now getting to support young people as they make that (sometimes) scary transition into employment is not something my younger self thought she'd be doing, but I am happy I am! We will be sending our feedback forms to all those who signed up/attended soon. But – if you have any feedback now, please do let me know! Two Days. Two Cities. 75 Young People. We're incredibly grateful to KPMG for partnering with us in London and Birmingham to empower marginalised young people with the insights they need to become competitive candidates for #apprenticeship opportunities. For those from disadvantaged backgrounds, often with no family history in corporate spaces, learning about these career paths is a rare, invaluable experience. We know this first-hand. Research highlights a stark reality: young people from lower-income backgrounds are four times more likely to remain in cycles of poverty if they lack exposure to diverse career pathways and role models. Days like these help break down barriers. These experiences don't just open young people's eyes to what's possible; they also bring fresh perspectives and untapped potential to companies like KPMG. Embracing diversity is a true win-win: it drives social mobility while giving businesses a competitive edge by welcoming talent with diverse insights and experiences. There are special rules to observe when employing an apprentice in the UK. Basically, an apprentice takes part in a structured training program that combines working with studying. Apprentices gain practical experience while earning a wage and working towards a recognised qualification. An apprentice can be a new or current employee. #Apprenticeships #Apprentice #Employment

I'm excited to share that l've successfully completed a three-day Virtual Insight Programme with PwC UK. During this programme, I explored the business areas available for school leavers at PwC and enhanced my employability skills through a mix of theoretical and practical activities from our handbooks. The experience was incredibly enriching, providing an in-depth look at the different finance lines of service and offering a glimpse into life at PwC. ⭐️ Day 1 We began the programme with a session on PwC's culture and inclusion, followed by an introduction to various career pathways at the company. We also received an overview of auditing and had the opportunity to try it out ourselves. The day concluded with a session focused on developing our business acumen skills. This activity provided a clear and concise understanding of auditing as a line of service and highlighted the importance of understanding clients' needs. ⭐️ Day 2 We had the chance to delve into three distinct lines of service at PwC: Technology, Consulting, and Operate. The day also featured a Virtual Park Networking activity, which allowed students to connect with new employees who were just beginning their careers at the firm. To conclude the day, there was a session specifically for parents and teachers, offering valuable insights into post-18 options and pathways available to students. ⭐️ Day 3 On our final day, we gained insight into tax as a line of service. A few professionals joined us to discuss demystifying tax, life within the tax field, and the impact of GenAl and technology. We also received valuable tips for interviews and assessments, aimed at helping us become standout candidates for future opportunities. Overall, this experience has offered me significant insights and understanding of the various pathways available for school and college leavers, as well as graduates. It has introduced me to the distinct lines of service within the financial sector. A big thank you to the team of professionals that made this programme successful.
