And…It becomes a great data driven tool for interviews as you grow in your career! My dear friend Sandy Govindsamy can bear testimony to this 🔥. This was one piece of insight I shared at an awesome #EmpowHer event that Dimension Data held today! Stepping into one’s own circle of power (#womenswarehouse) and power circle of other female colleagues was truly inspiring! I absolutely love the EmpowHer initiative driven by Dimension Data / NTT DATA which is a series of intentional actions aimed at empowering women in the tech industry, encourage career development and provide tools & tips for success! Seeing the fruits of Dimension Data’s young talent graduate program in Kholofelo Moloto, who was both a charismatic and courageous host, this early in her career, was a such a proud moment. I was honored to be part of the panel alongside Lauren Wortmann, Roopa Bharath and Duduetsang Kgosi Mogase where we discussed topics on inclusion, diversity and equity where I shared my experiences and insights on how to manage imposter syndrome and tools to excel in the IT industry. I am still on my own journey…these are some of the tips I shared based on my learnings along the way: 1/No chair at the table? Take your fold up chair and when you there speak up (even if the voices in your head says otherwise). 2/You are the CEO of YOU. What is YOUr business plan, YOUr worth and value proposition to drive profits for YOU? Build your business plan based on your idea of success and leverage all the resources (including mentors/coaches) to get there and don’t forget to bring others along with you. 3/Confidence is the outcome of being courageous! Have the courage to go after your dreams. It’s a journey and failures along the way are just lessons to be learnt for an even grander outcome. 4/Stay purposefully visible - sharing your views, ask lots of questions and put your hand up to projects even if you feel you’re not 100% qualified or it’s unpopular. 5/Believe in yourself, you’re the best bet you can make! Keep learning and give yourself permission to be you! Thank you NATALIE M. for putting together such an amazing event, was thoroughly enjoyable. Also thank you to Lerato Lebenya and Fozia Kirsten for all the behind the scene work in making the event a success.
