💥Last year, Educate! impacted 133,320 youth in Africa. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝟑𝟗𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎, marking a 1,000-fold increase since we first launched over a decade ago! 👩🏾🤝👨🏾🌟 A new report by Imaginable Futures and IDEO.org highlights the role of co-creation in building equitable learning systems. Educate!'s Board Chair, Dr. Dzingai Mutumbuka, is among 65 educators, policymakers, and advocates who share insights in the report "Reflecting on Philanthropy’s Role in the Future of Education Equity". 🌍 Why is cultivating a ‘Yes I Can’ mentality the first lesson in our bootcamps for out-of-school youth? "Most of our youth have lost hope and are often labeled by society as failures, but we don't see them as failures. We believe each of them has the ability to make a positive impact in their communities and in their own lives" – Educate! Training Officer FRANCIS KIBIRIGE, speaking passionately at the recent EdHeroes Global Forum. 📈 In the very first week, we challenge youth with a unique trading task: start with a pencil and use negotiation skills to trade it for something more valuable. The results? Sometimes they come back with a sack of maize; on one occasion, a participant even returned with a hen! 🔗 This exercise not only boosts their confidence but also underscores the value of perseverance and soft skills. Francis, along with Dorothy Namubiru and Anthony muzito, emphasized the importance of understanding the backgrounds of out-of-school youth. 💫𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐚𝐲 👧🏾 Around 65% of the young people in our livelihood bootcamps for out-of-school youth are women. Many like Faith, 22, from Kitui, Kenya, featured on the cover of our recent Impact Report, are single mothers. Our bootcamps support youth to build skills and gain practical business experience. We measure impact through “Milestone Actions”: 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐧: Generate income 💵 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞: Build financial security 🏚️ 𝐀𝐜𝐭: Own a business 🌿 Faith embodies these principles. She’s using income from her tree nursery to diversify into other enterprises, support her daughter and siblings and help her mother with household bills. She shared: “My tree nursery business depends on the rainy season to make good sales. So I’m saving to start a second business, a kiosk selling food and fruits.
